Meditation and Reflection on
Advent - The Gift of Waiting

Bible Reading & Meditation

Psalm 27: 13-14

I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord.

Isaiah 40: 31

...but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

Psalm 25: 4-5

Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long.

Reflection

Advent is a time of preparation and a time of waiting. We wait for the arrival of Christmas, the time of our Lord Jesus Christ's birth. We prepare our homes with festive decorations and we bake cookies and buy gifts for our loved ones. This year, during Advent, I am giving the Lord a gift. The gift of turning inwards and preparing myself for the Lord. During the hectic holiday season, I will take the time to discover where the Lord is needed in my life. While I wait in long lines at red lights and department stores, I will examine my life and prepare a place for Jesus. When I lose patience, I will remember the gift of waiting I am giving to Him. As I decorate the packages, I will open my heart and let Him in. I may be surprised to discover...He is already there...waiting for me.

Wait on the Lord...take deep breaths...inhaling the goodness of God and exhaling the pressure and stress of your day. Open your heart fully and allow our Lord Jesus Christ to enter. Talk with Him. O Lord, be with me this Advent season. Let your love prevail in me so that I may be ready all the days of my life. Help me to live in your peace-filled light. Help me to open myself to you in prayer this season. Hear me when I give my gift of waiting to You. Help me to listen so I can hear Your voice and allow you to enter into my life more and more each day.

I write in my journal any thoughts or feelings I have experienced during this meditation and reflection.

Prayer Focus

Father in Heaven, thank you for the gift of Love you gave to the world. Thank you for the birth of a tiny little child in a manager who came to save the world. Father, help me this Advent season to open my heart and allow you to come into my life deeper and more fully. Help me to grow in love. Help me to slow myself down this season and be refreshed by your gentle peace and goodness. Let me be a voice for you with songs of joy! I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, My Savior! Amen.
