Bible Reading & Meditation

Matthew 7:21

"Not every one who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."

1 Samuel 15: 22

"...Obedience is better than sacrafice..."

John 14: 15

"If you love me, you will keep my commandments."

1 Peter 14-16

"Like obedient children, do not act in compliance with the desires of your former ignorance but, as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in every aspect of your conduct, for it is written, "Be holy because I [am] holy."

Ephesians 2: 10

For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them.

Reflection

Obedience to God unites us to Him in a continuing communion. When we submit and unite our will with His will, we place ourselves and the power of our soul at His service. Obedience is charity in action. He who does God's will is patient, charitable, steadfast in the fulfillment of duties of his life, upright, strong, temperate, mortified and more. Obedience leads to profound peace. The obedient soul knows how God is pleased and lives quite content and happy under His loving care. When God is our pilot, he arranges everything with love for the greater good of us. Why should we worry. Obedience has three degrees: The obedient person observes the commandments of God and of the church, his life is an example of Jesus, and, progressing even more, he submits his own will, conforming it to the will of God.

Sink back into your chair...take deep breaths...inhaling the goodness of God and exhaling the pressure and stress of your day. Do I realize how many treasures are contained in obedience? What degree have I reached? Do I make an effort to progess?

I write in my journal any thoughts or feelings I have experienced during this meditation and reflection.

Prayer Focus

Lord, to my nature, "Obedience" is very hard. But I know that in heaven I shall be exalted to the degree that I have been submissive on earth. "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." May the most holy, most just, and most loving will of God be obeyed, praised and exalted eternally, in all things. Help me to know what would please you today. Speak, I am listening. Yes, I will submit my will, heart and judgement without hesitation. Accept my service. I ask this in the name of Your Son, Jesus the Lord. Amen.
