Pack 240 Pinewood Derby Track

Gasoline Alley -
We have added a feature to our track to help slow the cars down at the end of the track called gasoline alley! The premise behind this design is that the car is raised above the surface, and allowed to slow with friction, instead of an abrupt, pine jarring jolt into a "stop box". The section is simply a fith pice of track with 1x2 strips in place of the standard lanes. Each strip is beveled to begin at the exact hieght of the preceding lane and rises to the full hieght of the strip in approx 1 - 2 feet. The strips were origionally laminated with vinyl, but trial and error resulted with using good 'ol duct tape (BLACK) to provide adequate friction to stop the cars. however, the fastest of the fast cars still made it to the end. Therefore, we added a solid wall with a face of dense foam . To date with more than 250 runs of 6 cars per run, not one has received any damage. NOTE: Since friction is used to stop the cars, they will undoubtedly have some paint from the bottom deteriorate from the heat. We have had no complaints from even the pickiest of parents....even at the district race.

Below are a couple of shots that we took of a car at the beginning of Gasoline alley, and one of it raised above the surface of the track...
