Dahlias are considered to be one of the most spectacular gardening flowers because there is such a wide variety available. They are actually biennial flowers, meaning they bloom every second year. They will bloom the first year if grown from seed or transplanted in spring, after the last frost. Dahlias are bushy plants with long-lasting flowers. In years which they do not bloom, they appear as green foilage.
