RECALLING HIS GRANDMOTHER'S NAME

When I was a young woman, newly married and full of vigor,

I wondered and queried about the roots of my family and thy mates.

Oh how I explored the libraries and wrote the stories told.

For someday I would tell my children of their ancestors fate.

In the beginning of my writing the precious names of old,

My husband could not recall his grandmothers name.

But his dear sweet great aunt had names way back,

and diaries written during the Indian war by father's of fame.

No more time for research after the first child came.

A house full of kids kept me occupied with our own story.

Then one day my children had homework on family trees.

So out came the old records of our ancestral history.

Christina won first place in the History Fair

with her interview of four Civil War ancestors.

Bradley Aced his History class when it came alive

With his ancestors involved it was no longer a bore!

I'm so much older now, with three children grown.

I've remarried and have 2 children in a different family tree.

Can you believe it ...their father can not recall

his Grandmother's name in his family!

Could you be the dear Aunt or Uncle

        with wonderful stories of old

That will pass down to the Gandy's of tomorrow!
