Hi Jennifer (or should I say cousin??) I am directly related to Vincent Brun. My father has done much research over the years on the Brun family tree-my grandfather who passed away a few years ago was also named Vincent. I live in Nova Scotia not too far from Port Royal, home to many of the original Acadian ancestors. It is a very nice spot and I usually go there on August 15 each year when they have Acadian Days. The church onsite has the original family names engraved o a plaque-Brun is listed there. Not too far from there is the Habitation--also a "mecca" for Acadians---there is an old wooden fort still there to this day. I am excited that the next Acadian World Conference will be in Nova Scotia! I am lucky that my family has retained the Acadian culture and that despite the fact I live in a predominitely english region, we still speak french at family gatherings. My own k ds (3 and 1) will also be taught about their Acadian heritage. I was happy to come across your page as I know about most of the Brun family from Vincent onwards, but I always wondered if there was a Louisiana connection in there somewhere. I know that a few of my long lost relatives were imprisioned during the Expuls on, but I am sure that a few probably went to Lousiana. It seems that alot of families came from the Vincent Brun line. I will definitely bookmark your page! Keep up the great work Lyne

She married Charles L. Evans. Charles L. Evans is my husband's great Grandfather, which is the line I am actually researching. Additionally, the parents of Charles L. Evans were John Evans and Tabitha BL NCHARD. I am back on your site again trying to sort out Tabitha Blanchard. I believe she originally married Thomas Nowlan 12-23-1823 in Warren Cty, MS. Then as Tabitha NowlanD, she married John M. Evans 05-30-1828 in Hinds Cty, MS. Do you have any inf rmation or verification? Thanks. Lanette

My research, with the help of Les Famillie de Melancon -- Steve Melancon, sect. e-mail; melancon@telapex.com and my visit to France indicates the following: Priscilla married Pierre La Verdure, a French Huguenot from LaRochelle France (send your mailing address and I will send you copies of my research materials). Pierre (who assumed the name "La Verdure" and later changed his name to "Melanson"), was born in 1595 in La Rouchelle (Charente-Maritime). While in La Rouchelle doing Family research, last May, I was told by the French Genealogy Socity in La Rouchelle, that "La Verdure" was not Pierre's true name and was one that he assumed when, escaping to England, during the French decision to wipe out th Huguenots. He married Priscilla Melancon in 1630 In Yorkshire (Grand Bretagne), England. He and Priscilla and their three children embarked from Angleterre in 1657 on the vessel "Satisfaction", with Sir Thomas Temple. Sir Thomas Temple was the recently appointed English Governor of Acadia. The family is thought to have settled on St John River in Acadia. Temple(t) is thought my many to be a desendant of Sir Thomas Temple,(but not yet proven)who in the course of time changed Temple into Temple(t).

Jennifer, I love your Carl Larsson site. I, too, have been fascinated with Larsson's work as well as Karin's. My interest began in 1989 when we had an exchange student from Sweden living with us. He gave us a couple prints by Larsson. Since then, I've tried to find books, cards, and prints with some success. He used to be much more popular than he is now. Anyway, I, too like Ikea (I use the Newark, NJ store)and have gotten a few Larsson things there. But, the last time I visited (Thanksgiving) I loo ed around and didn't see any Larsson stuff. Thanks for your great website and congratulations on your marriage. Sincerely, Barbara

Jennifer: Enjoying your extensive web pages. I'm from De Quincy, La in the Lake Charles area, but have lived in Baton Rouge (retired from the Administration area of L.S.U.) since the mid 50's. My ancesters, living in La., lived in the area from Donaldsonville to Thibodaux to LaPlace & back to Dnldsnvlle. My father was born (his mother: Giroir, whose mother was a Templet) & raised in Plattenville (his ancestors are all Acadian including 7 lines of Le Blanc in my 7th generation) and my mother, born near Labadievil e & after her family moved around some, ended up in Plattenville (a Kern(e)(r), & her mother a Boudreaux). I've researched their ancestors extensively. My wife is from north of Chicago and her parents from Switzerland. We have traveled on our own through most of Europe, including the Poitou area, where most of the Acadians were from, the Nantes & St Malo areas, where many lived for some 30 years betwe n the expulsion & being shipped to La. (Bayou Lafourche) in 1985. I don't speak french, but did verify the original spellings of names such as Le Blanc, (not Leblanc), Giroire (not Girouard or Giroir), etc. Did you make the 2nd World Acadian Congress, here in La. during the first 2 weeks in August, which included an all-day genealogy symphorium in Thibodaux on Aug. 5th. There were some 50 family reunions of most of the Acadian names. By the way, of my 6 sisters (& 1 living brother), one now lives in New Brunsfel (you mentioed Frederichburg). Also, my closest friend, Howard Jones, Jr, here in BR, is from St Joseph, La. in Tensas Parish (Your mother was from there). In addition, I knew a Phillip Marroy in the agriculture area from Paincoutville area (his wife wore a patch over one eye). Close kin of yours? Small world, huh. Jim Le B

I am just beginning my search and don't even know if I can go beyond my grandparents. My search will be hampered by missing birth certificates, poor records, and aging parents that no longer remember anything as complicated as their own grandparents name . Because of strokes my father doesn't know his parents names anymore. I only know your site mentioned very similiar names. My father is Felix John Daigle (b.5/5/18) married to Ruby Marie Clement (b.10/7/23). His father was Ursin Pierre Daigle (born?) married Fostine Rodriguez (born?) We know from photographs that she was dark skinned Spanish/Canary Islands? Unfortunately, there has always been confusion as to where the Daigles came from. My mother, Ruby's, parents were Clifton Joseph Clement married to Henrietta Bernadette Bourg born 4/2/00. Clifton Joseph's father was Emile Clement. Henrietta's father was either Aubert or Alber Bourg. Henrietta mother's maiden name was Noami Kearn or Kerne. If any of this rings a bell I would love to hear about any info. that would help me begin. I think your research was thorough, fantastic and probably exhuasting.

Jennifer, great website. My mother has told me of a home near Liberty used by Union troops as HQ, so not destroyed. Family history is that it was still intact during her childhood in the 1930s. The family name is Causey, which I am now wondering about. No e of my Causey contacts has panned out. The Acadian background of Caissey does match. Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. I want to show my kids the home next summer if possible. My mother now has Alzheimer's and can't help with details. She told me it's near Liberty and she believe has a historical marker. Also, the surrounding plantation was subdivided, according to my uncle, who went there 25 years or so ago. My kids are history buffs, like me. Appreciate any help. Congrats on your wedding.

Really enjoyed your web site and the apparent throughness of your research. Mary's ancestors of Cottinghams, Whittingtons and Mercers lived, married and died in either Copiah Co. or Amite Co. Her gggg-grandfather, Thomas Mercer died in 1819 at Near Creek, Amite Co. We are retired and live in the Austin area now. Perhaps we can get together sometime and go over history. My hometown is Abilene and Mary's was Grandfield, OK and her parents lived in Wichita Falls for many years. Best regards

Hello Fellow Mississippian,
I just joined the Mississippi webring and was making my way around visiting the sites. And may I say yours is great. I have two myself and hope that they both eventually make it into the ring. Until they do, I'd like to extend to you the hand of web-frien ship and invite you to come on over to visit me sometime.

I am also very proud of my newest site

Doc Freebir 's Grand Old South

I like to refer to it as a "kinder, gentler" version of Southern Paradise. In any case, I hope you will drop by either place (or preferably both), visit awhile, and be sure to sign the guestbook. Like my Daddy used to say, "We'l treat you so many ways, you bound to like some of them."
C-Ya Soon,
Doc

P.S. Results of my family search are found HERE.

I disagree with the first two generations you have for the descendants of Glass Caston and Elizabeth Wigan (Should be Elizabeth Wagner...b. 1742 in PA..of Welsh descent...info from her son's, Wilks Caston, Bible). I am basing my descend chart primarily fr m their son's family bible (and in agreement with other researchers of this line). If you have data supporting that Green Glass Caston was their son, I would really appreciate it. Thanks, donna Carter

Hi Your site is very interesting. But one thing that I have been searching for has not shown up on any site connected to Amite County. And that one thing is the minutes or records of the Gallilee Baptist Church about 1/4 mi. south of Gloster. My 2GFather & 2GGrandmother are buried in the church graveyard which was abandoned when the church's property was taken to either widen or pave the road. The congregation of this church then moved to the Ebenezer Baptist Church. No one seems to know what happened to these records. The twin log houses that John McCoy Dye and Mary Blake lived in on "Plantation Gloster" and had 13 children is still being used to this day as a residence. Many of the names in your dissertation have a familiar ring to them, especially the Johns and the Webbs. I have read every word of your site and I will be back when I can give more time to your documentation. Sure would like to get my hands on Mr. Caseys Book. Would solve a lot of unanswered questions. I'll be back! hldye@msn.com

Hello Jennifer, It's now almost midnight. I happend on your site around 10:00PM. I am utterly amazed at the care and effort your've poured into this project. I will be returning because there is so much that I did not get a chance to really look over. I seem to have th same interests as you. Just when I thought it could not get any better with the historical links, period clothes, with links to actual PATTERNS, victoria links, paintings by Larrson, educational, etc. I saw you page on (costume) films. (I think I am al o in love with the type of film which is used for these movies...it seems to present such rich colors.) I too am interested in genealogy; that is how I found myself at your site by linking from ? I entered the names above because this is what I originally was looking for. (Perhaps you only wanted the names that may have been listed in your group.) If, however, you run across any of these, I'd love to hear from you. Currently, I am a graduate student at International University.I will be finishing my M.A. in Business Communications, in Feb. '99. Also, I work as a physician search consultant. I am originally from LA but live in Minneapolis with MY new husband whom I et while on an assignment in northern MN. Thanks for giving me a real thrill by discovering your website. I seldom, if ever, find myself as intrigued with a site as I am yours. I truely enjoyed it. Congratulations on your recent 2nd master's degree and your upcoming wedding. Rosemarie

Loved your site. Historical and interesting. I am part of the Jacobs clan, mostly from McComb and Pike county. And, will probably be buried, eventually, in the Jacobs graveyard, which is just north of Liberty. Live in Atlanta, now. Keep up the good work!

My African American ancestors (George Pinkney and Ellen Huggins) were united in holy matromony September 19, 1874, in Gloster, Amite County, MS. The 1880 Census indicates that George was 25 years old and Ellen was 20 years old. It also states that Georg was a farmer and Ellen was a housekeeper. I would like to link my ancestors to the slaveholders, however, without being able to find them in the 1870 Census, I don't know whether or not they were in MS, SC or another state. Later, all ten of their children moved to Coahoma, MS, however, I am not sure whether or not George moved with them. He may have remarried. It is said that George died prior to 1920. If you have any resources for me, I would appreciate it sincerely. Thanks - Wilsie

I did not want the pictures and info. to end. The family names above lived in Amite Co. from 1800 to the present and most attended the Ebenezer Ch. All of my Hughes were in business at Centreville & the area. My vacations there were so wonderful. Thanks for sharing. By the way I have a picture of one of the two story anti-bellum homes, which was destroyed by an army camp there during WW II., the home where I spent those great vacations. Thanks again .
