Located just south of Placentia, Gooseberry Cove Provincial Park has magnificent scenery and a beautiful white sandy beach. Here too you will find a peaceful stream flowing into the sea and an excellent freshwater swimming hole.

Point Lance is on the south coast of the Avalon Peninsula between Branch and St. Bride's. This peaceful community of The Irish Loop has a beautiful beach and usually a high surf.

The old cemetery in St. Bride's has many historic gravestones that peer out over the sea. The inscriptions on the stones tell tales of disease, accidents and lives lost at sea.

The wharf and fish plant in St. Bride's are focal points in this Avalon peninsula community. The armourstone wall seen in the right centre of this photo was washed over by 40 foot waves during the September, 1999 storm.

The sun slowly sets over Placentia Bay, Newfoundland's largest bay. This photo was taken from atop a cliff at Bird Island Resort in St. Bride's, one of our favourite places to visit.

Located just outside St. Bride's, St. Mary's Bird Sanctuary is the nesting grounds for thousands of birds and attracts visitors from around the world. Seen here is Bird Rock, the preferred site for the Great Northern Gannet.

This fish ladder near the Avalon community of Colinet helps trout around a high falls in the river there.

The picturesque fishing community of Salvage is a photographer's delight with quaint houses perched on the rock, breathtaking seascapes and images of bygone fishing days at every vista.

Burgeo, on the south coast of Newfoundland, has a very scenic harbour, Sandbanks Provincial Park and a ferry dock where one boards the boat for Ramea.

Ramea harbour on a quiet August morning displays the tranquility and scenic nature of many Newfoundland communities. This photo was taken from the ferry dock during Come Home celebrations in 1999.

Another view of Ramea harbour.

The Caribou is one of the Marine Atlantic ferries that carries passengers and vehicles across the Gulf of St. Lawrence to Newfoundland ports of Port aux Basques and Argentia.

The Joseph and Clara Smallwood is another boat in the Marine Atlantic fleet.

This view of Port aux Basques, taken from the ferry going to the mainland, is often a sad view for many visitors and residents who are leaving Newfoundland. The Table Mountains can be seen in the background.

Bell Island is a picturesque community within commuting distance of St. John's and is accessible by ferry from Portugal Cove.

Portugal Cove fades in the distance as the ferry leaves for Bell Island. The return trip when this photo was taken in April, 1999 was delayed for two hours due to high winds and rough seas.

These overturned dories were found on a beach near the ferry dock on Bell Island. The April storm can be seen lashing the island in this photo.

Seemingly stretching on forever these lobster traps were stacked neatly on a wharf in Port Saunders along the Northern Peninsula.

Another Northern Peninsula community is Hawke's Bay and these traps were piled along beside the sea not far from that community.

This sign is prominent along the Trans Canada Highway near Gambo, home of former Premier Joey Smallwood. It marks and welcomes visitors to a lookout and picnic area offering a panoramic view of the area.
