I was doing my devotions this morning and in the In Touch Magazine was a little article taken from Elisabeth Elliot's book "A Lamp For My Feet" I wanted to share it with my brothers and sisters. May you be the jewel in God's heart today. (Malachi 3:17)
DETOURS
When Pharoah let the people go, "God did not guide them by the road towards the Philistines, though that way was the shortest. ...God made them go round by the way of the wilderness towards the Red Sea" (Exodus 13:17, 18)....
God had something infinitely more important than economics in mind -- He wanted the people to be able to sing the song of praise of Chapter 15 -- "The Lord is my refuge and my defense....my deliverer. He is my God and I will glorify Him; He is my father's God and I will exalt Him" (Exodus 15:2)
They sang this song because they had firsthand experience of God's power and deliverance. Pursued by all the chariots and horses, cavalry and infantry of Egypt, they had passed through the Red Sea in safety and seen the enemy drowned.
They would have missed this glorious lesson if they had taken the short road. When we are puzzled by delays and detours, let us thing about the great purpose of lifeto glorify God. The lessons He wants to teach us "in the wilderness" are priceless means of providing us with a song we could not otherwise have sung.
********** For some of us, God is taking us through the long way in the wilderness of our weight loss. But with consistent obedience and trust in Him, He will bring us to the Red Sea, part the waters and deliver us. We'll have a new song to sing in praise of all He has done for us.
"He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord." (Psalms403, NIV)
"The Lord will perfect that which concerneth methy mercy O Lord, endureth foreverforsake not the workof thine own hands. (Psalms 138:8, KJV)
