This page includes sketches I have compiled from my family history research
for my own use. I am posting them on the Internet in the interest of sharing
this information with interested parties. If you appear to be directly related,
based on the information in the the sketches, or have comments to share

do research for others, nor am I particularly interested in speculative
relationships or unrelated surname discussions. There are many other worthy

m. about 1850 Sarah Melissa REVIS; b. 22 Dec 1834, NC; d. 24 Nov 1870 (35y,
11m, 2d - per North Grove Cemetery records, Page Co, IA) Note: 1870 census
has her age 36, whereas 1860 census says age 21, obviously incorrect - but,
she was 16 when married, 17 when first daughter born.
The 1953 Kinnick genealogy book by Mrs. Waggoner only has a birth year for
Wash, as 1825. Accumulating evidence seems to suggest that he was enroute
between North Carolina and Indiana with the "Kinnick family migration"
and was missed by both census counters, at each end. It is also apparent
that Wash and Melissa were married during this same time period - we have
yet to confirm the exact date or place. (See census
date, below, for additional detail). Wash and Melissa appear to have
had their frist two daughters born in Indiana before the moved their family
to Iowa in 1854-56.
They are listed among the first settlers of Nodaway Township, in the northwest
corner of Taylor Co, in Iowa. (Some family references are to Holt Township,
to the east, and to Vally Township, Page Co, immediately to the west of
Nodaway Township).

John H. Kinnick

John H. Kinnick Dies Today at 90
John Harvey Kinnick, 90, a long-time Central Montana rancher, died early
this morning in St. Joseph's hospital after a short illness. Funeral services
are pending.
Mr. Kinnick was born August 8, 1964, at Valiski (sic), Iowa, the son of
George and Malisa Kinnick. He received his schooling in Iowa. At 24, he
left Iowa and traveled to Oregon by covered wagon. He married Margaret Thompson
at Baker, Ore. on October 30, 1895.
He remained in Oregon until 1907, when he came to Montana, settling on a
ranch 13 miles south of Grass Range. Mr. Kinnick operated this ranch continuously
until his death.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Fred Hedge, Long Beach, Calif.;
Mrs. Ernest Finkbeiner and Mrs. Leslie Finkbeiner, both of Grass Range;
two sons, Glenn, Coffeeville, Kans. and Clifford, Vale, Ore.; two brothers,
George and Sol, both of Grass Range, 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Kinnick was preceded in death by his wife, two sons and three sisters.

Funeral services for John H. Kinnick were held Saturday afternoon in the
Creel Funeral home with the Rev. Randall Larson officiating. Burial was
in the City cemetery.
Pallbearers were J. E. McKenna, Oscar Mundson, A. A. Clark, Cletus Cauley,
Forbes Wiseman and Bill Ahlgren.
Clyde Fredrickson sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful
Isle of Somewhere," accompanied by Pauline Lausch.

Funeral services for George W. Kinnick, 95, of Lewistown, were held from
the Creel Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. J. Wilson Branstetter.
Soloist Clyde Fredrickson sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "Nearer
My God to Thee," with organ accompaniment by Pauline Lausch.
Pallbearers were Wayne Stevens, Gary Eppers, Don L. Loebs, Tom Dudley, LaVerne
A. Sorenson, and George D. Carr.
Burial was in the Grass Range Cemetery.
Lesley C. Kinnick
Lewistown Daily News, 28 April 1953:
Lesley C. Kinnick, 65, Grass Range, was killed early this morning a half
mile north of Grass Range when a tractor he was driving overturned into
a ditch and crushed him.
Highway Patrolman A. C. Vanek estimated the time of death at between 2:30
and 3 a.m. the body was found and reported by a Consolidated Freightways
truck driver.
Kinnick, employed on a farm northeast of Grass Range, "apparently had
been drinking," according to Vanek, the investigating officer at the
scene.
The highway patrolman said the tractor went off the road onto a high shoulder,
estimated to be six or seven feet high, and toppled off, crushing Kinnick.
Coroner Ed Gurnett said no inquest will be held.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Creel's Chapel here.
He is survivied by his wife, Mary; three daughters, Mrs. Doris Russell of
Azusa, Calif., Mrs. Robert Croan of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Ione Zontine
of Lancaster, Calif.; his father, George Kinnick of Grass Range; a brother,
Bill of Grass Range; three sisters, Mrs. James Dudley of Billings, Mrs.
Alma Linsley of Grass Range, and Mrs. Glennn (Alice) Carr of Hamilton; five
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was born May 27, 1886, in Taylor County, Iowa, and received his early
schooling in Wyoming.
He came to Montana and settled at Grass Range with his parents in 1902.
He was married to Mary O'Halloran in Lewistown. Kinnick had been employed
by Del Buckler for the past five years.

William Kinnick Dies Suddenly
William Kinnick, 72, died suddenly yesterday noon at Grass Range.
He was born Feb 20, 1888, in Iowa, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George
Kinnick. He received his schooling in Montana and was never married.
He was a ranch worker and had lived in the Grass Range area for the last
58 years.
Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. James Dudley and Mrs. Frances Linsley
of Lewistown and Mrs. Glenn Carr of Forsyth, Mont., and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held from the Creel Funeral Home Friday at 2 p.m.
and burial will follow in the Grass Range Cemetery.

Glen Kinnick
Glen Harvey Kinnick, 92, formerly of Ocean Shores, Wash. died at his home
Saturday, Feb. 25, 1995.
Glen was born Sept. 7, 1902 in Elgin, Ore. He was the third of seven children
born to John Harvey Kinnick and Margaret Jane Thompson.
In 1909, his family moved by wagon train to homestead 160 acres in Grass
Range, Mont. There he completed the eighth grade and helped his family plant
and harvest wheat.
At the age of 20 he began his career in the oil business. He spent 10 years
working on the Pacific coast and 10 years in Utah and Idaho working for
both independent and major oil companies. He helped pioneer the research
for cracking oils by steam and air processes. He came to Kansas in 1939
when he joined the world's first cooperative lube oil refinery operated
by the Consumers Cooperative Association (Farmland Industries) in Phillipsburg.
he was employeed as a plant operator and worked his way up to plant manager.
In 1950, he was transferred to the Coffeyville plant as manager until his
retirement in 1967. During his 45 years of employment, he was the recipient
of many awards for his contribution to the oil field.
Glen was elected mayor of Phillipsburg in 1949 until he transferred to Coffeyville.
The city benefitted by additions of street lights, a firetruck and a street
sweeper as a result of his term.
Glen was a 3rd degree mason with the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Presbyterian
Church, Phillipsburg.
Survivors include three children: Lem M. Kinnick, Purdys, N.Y., G. Sue Kinnick,
Topeka, and Rand T. Kinnick, Palm Desert, Calif.; two sisters: Dorothy J.
Finkbeiner and Inez Opal Finkbeiner both of Grass Range, Mont. He has 10
grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one great-great-granchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral
Home,Topeka.

Solomand Kinnick Dies at Rest Home
Solomand D. Kinnick, 89, died at a Lewistown rest home Sunday morning after
a three-year illness.
A pioneer Grass Range rancher and a pioneer in Oregon, he moved to Montana
in 1907.
He was born Dec. 21, 1869, at Taylor County, Iowa, the son of the late George
and Melissa Kinnick. He never married.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from the Creel Funeral Home Wednesday at 2
p.m. by Rev. J. Wilson Branstetter. Burial will be at the Lewistown City
Cemetery.

Death of Mrs. George Kinnick of Grass Range:
Long-time Resident and Wife of Prominent Elk Creek Rancher,
Passes at her Ranch Home Friday Morning;
Funeral at Grass Range 2 P.M. Tuesday.
Mrs. Ida Kinnick, 75, wife of George Kinnick, prominent rancher of the Grass
Range section for the past 40 years, died at her ranch home on Elk creek,
southeast of Grass Range, Friday morning, following several months of failing
health.
The body was brought to the Creel funeral home here until the time of the
funeral which will be held at the Grass Range Community church at 2 o'clock
Tuesday afternoon.
Emma Ida Briggs was born in 1867 in Iowa, whre she attended the local schools,
grew to young womanhood and was married in 1884 to George Kinnick.
In 1891 the Kinnicks moved west to Wyoming, where they lived for 11 years.
In the fall of 1902 they came to Fergus county and settled first at Gilt
Edge. In the spring of the following year, 1903 they moved to the Grass
Range section and took up a farm on Elk creek, where they had made their
home continuously since.
Beloved by her neighbors and a wide circle of friends of long standing,
Mrs. Kinnick is survived by her husband, six children, 16 grandchildren
and nine great grandchildren. The surviving children are Less and Bill Kinnick,
Mrs. May Dudley and Mrs. Alma Linsley, all of Grass Range; Mrs. Alice Carr
of Hamilton and Mrs. Ruth Stevens of Billings.

Last Tribute Paid Memory Mrs. G. Kinnick:
Services for Long-Time Resident of Grass Range Section,
Who Died Friday, Held from Grass Range Church Tuesday afternoon.
Grass Range, Dec. 29. - Sorrowing relatives and many friends and neighbors
of long standing gathered at the community church here Tuesday afternoon
to pay their last tributes of love and respect to the memory of Mrs. George
Kinnick, long-time resident of this section who died at her home on Elk
creek last Friday.
The Rev. Mr. Oliver of the Great Falls Christian church conducted the services
during which two special request duet numbers were sung by Grass Range women.
The church was filled to capacity and the floral remembrances were of much
beauty. Following the services at the church, many accompanied the casket
to the Grass Range cemetery were burial was made.
A native of Iowa, Emma Ida Briggs, who was married in that state in 1884
to George Kinnick, came to Fergus county from Wyoming in 1902 with her husband
and family and after a year spent in the Gilt Edge section moved to the
Elk creek ranch near Grass Range, where she had lived since.
Mrs. Kinnick is survived by her widower, six children, 16 grandchildren
and nine great-grandchildren. The surviving children are Les and Bill Kinnick,
Mrs. May Dudley and Mrs. Alma Lindsey, all of Grass Range; Mrs. Alice Carr
of Hamilton and Mrs. Ruth Stevens of Billings.

Mrs. J. Kinnick Dies at Home Near Gr. Range
Special to the Democrat-News.
Grass Range, Feb. 25. - Mrs. John Kinnick, wife of a prominent eastern Fergus
rancher, passed away at the ranch home at two o'clock this afternoon, having
suffered a heart attack in the forenoon. She was the mother of Mrs. Fred
Hedge, Fred being a deputy under Clerk of the Court Bert Replogle for a
number of years. Owing to the suddenness of her passing further details
are not available at this time.

Death Mrs. Jno. Kinnick of G.R.
The people of the Grass Range area deeply grieve the sudden death of Mrs.
Margaret Kinnick, wife of John Kinnick, prominent rancher and long time
resident of eastern Fergus, who died late last Wednesday afternoon at her
ranch home near Grass Range, and who was buried in Lewistown Sunday afternoon.
Margaret J. Thompson ws born at Gifford, Ill., 53 years ago, and was married
to John Kinnick at Union, Oregon, October 30, 1894. With her husband she
moved to Montana and settled at their present home near Grass Range soon
after their marriage, where they have lived ever since.
Mrs. Kinnick was loved and respected by all who knew or came in contact
with her, and her sudden death about 6:30 Wednesday afternoon, February
25, following a stroke earlier in the day, came as a sad shock to the members
of the family and friends of the Grass Range section.
Besides the husband, Mrs. Kinnick is survived by five children, Lena, Mrs.
Fred Hedge, of Kansas; Clifford, of Los Angeles; Glenn of Mayville, Ore.;
Dorothy, Mrs. Leslie Finkbeiner, of Grass Range; Opal, Mrs. Earnest Finkbeiner,
also of Grass Range. All but two of the children were here for the funeral
service Sunday.
The deceased is also survived by two brothers, one living at Elgin, Ore.;
and the other in Mayville, Ore.

G.W., John Harvey, and Solomand. The five daughters, all older,
will be reported elsewhere.
All three sons spent all their later years and raised their families in
the ranch country of Fergus County, Montana, near the town of Grass Range.
Solomand, the youngest, never married (per his obit).
Their oldest son, also known as George Washington KINNICK, born in Villisca,
IA, 28 Jun 1863, lived to age 95, a 58 year resident of Central Montana,
died there in February 1959, leaving 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren
and seven great-great-grandchildren (per his obit). They left Iowa in 1891
and lived in Wyoming for 11 years. In the Fall of 1902, they went to Fergus
County, MT, first at Gilt Edge. In the Spring in 1903, they moved to Grass
Range, on Elk Creek and remained there the rest of their years (her obit).
The middle son, John Harvey KINNICK, also born in Villisca, 8 Aug 1864,
was schooled in Iowa. At age 24 (1888), he left Iowa and traveled to Oregon
by covered wagon. He married Margaret THOMPSON at Baker, OR, 30 Oct 1895.
They remained in Oregon until 1907 when moved to Montana, settling on a
ranch 13 miles south of Grass Range, in Fergus County. They lived on this
ranch until he died, May 1955, leaving 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren
(per his obit).
