A Message from Ruben
(The Dad of a Grad)

By Ruben Morales

This school year is soon coming to an end. Let me encourage you to continue on with the great work you are doing at home. Your labor is not in vain. So stay on target and make these last few weeks days of triumph and accomplishment for you and your children.

Let me chronologically list the year-end events that either have recently taken place or that you can still attend:

  • FHE Talent Night – This was a special event I trust you did not miss. Did you know you could attend whether or not you had a child participating? Those of you who did attend I know were ministered to, encouraged and even entertained as the students performed and displayed their skills and talents.

  • FHE Graduation Night – We had a formal graduation ceremony for several of our seniors at the Reynolda Presbyterian Church. Read their biographies and keep these students in your prayers as they pursue other avenues of life, be it more education, work or marriage or just … rest. Now that sounds more like it!

  • Barn-raising Event: Saturdays, May 8, 15, & 22 – Rise up ye MEN. Check this and April’s newsletter for details. This is a ministry opportunity you will not want to miss. Older sons who will work are welcome.

  • FHE Promotion, Awards, & Graduation Night, Thursday, May 27 at 7:00 p.m. - We will present the students who are being promoted to the next level of academic skills. Also special awards of various kinds will be given to students who participated in events during the year. As a finale we will present the Graduating Class of 1999. There will be a sign-up sheet at the door so that your child will not be missed.

  • FHE Leadership Meeting, Monday, June 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Ruben Morales’s place. If you are concerned and interested in the direction Forsyth Home Educators is taking, please attend. Your ideas and suggestions are gladly welcomed. If you wish to become part of the leadership team of volunteers, please attend.

We will need the following positions to be filled by this June 7th meeting**:

Newsletter Editor – Teri Emerson has been doing a splendid and awesome work for two years now. Although she thoroughly enjoys the job, she needs the time to support her husband in ministry. Teri has given many hours of tedious and creative mental activity to the preparation of this journal. What in the beginning took a journal club of teens under the direction of Laurie Coker, has been her task for the most part. Sharon Ward, Jerry Matthews, Carrie Pippins, Leigh Bortins and other volunteers will share the other tasks of the final delivery to your door.

Librarian - For several years Laurie Coker has faithfully managed our lending library from her home and now, at her request, it needs another home. Interested?

Telephone Calendar – Cathy Winkelman has been our calendar coordinator but has now moved to Florida for some much needed family support. Pray for this family and volunteer your services as our telephone calendar coordinator.

Finally, let's not forget our Annual FHE Picnic at Horizons Park on Saturday, August 21 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Come early for a time full of fun and games – sets you up for a great appetite.

Register now for next year to keep you in touch of all the happenings for the coming school year. Fill out the application form on the last page of this newsletter and send it with your check made to Forsyth Home Educators.

**Please call Teri Emerson at or Ruben Morales if you are interested in the positions that are open.

    HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!
