The story behind the Kittens began about 10:30 on a Thursday night in April (about the 16 Th.). I knew it was a strange night but no one would listen to me. Kritter was in pain and having a fit. She just wanted Cassie to go to bed but Cassie was sleeping on the couch that nit. Everyone went to bed except Kritter, and me. She was in a lot of pain and really confused.
It was to be her first litter of kittens. About 10:50 she had her first one. It made the cutest little meeeu sound. Well I just couldn't help it, I barked. I was so proud of her. Well between the little meeu and my bark, I guess we woke up my human, Dave. He woke up Sami, 'cause he don't do babies, 'specially kittens. (Let me explain, Dave says he doesn't do babies and kittens, until he sees them, then he melts…)
Well, Sami made it in there in time to see Kritter cleaning up the first little bundle of hair and claws. She didn't have to long to wait (11:30), and the second kitten was to be born. But something was wrong. I ought to know, I had my nose right there in the business, supervising. I know they couldn't do this without me. Sami woke Cassie up and was saying something about the kitten being in the wrong position (breech, I think she said) and that she would have to help this one be born. Kritter was not happy. She was very scared, but Sami talked to her through the whole thing and soon a really pretty (really big) kitten was here to join the first.
Then Kritter began to get more relaxed. So relaxed that it was 1:30 before she had the third one. It was a cute yellow and white. Sami was so patient with Kritter through the whole ordeal. She even waited until 3:00 thinking that there was another kitten. But she couldn't hold out any longer. Sami went to bed.
When everyone got up at 6:00 in the morning, guess what? There were four little babies in the box with Kritter. With my excellent supervision (and Sami showing her what to do on the first three) Kritter had the last one while everyone slept.
The babies are almost a month old now. Unfortunately two of them didn't make it this far. I'm told that’s normal for a first litter sometimes. If they had let me take care of them they would have been all right. They have their eyes open now. They are beginning to crawl around. They aren't in the box anymore though. Kritter has moved them into the closet. I think she is afraid that I'll take them away from her. Well, they are mine. I just wanna look. I wanna help protect them and love them.
Really, that is all that I wanna do. Honest.
UPDATE on KITTENS!
Kritter has brought her Kittens out of the closet and even though a Tomcat did get two of the kittens (which only left her two) she has managed to steal two kittens from Cutie and now has four kittens again.......
