My husband and I have four children. The oldest was born in 1982 and the youngest in 1990. When it was time for our first to begin school we found that we didn't feel it was the right choice for our family to send her to public school nor did private school seem to be the option. Homeschools where still fairly new and unknown, but my sister had homeschooled her children for part of their education, so the idea had been introduced. We decided to begin with homestudy, but did not commit to it for life. Each year, and sometimes on a monthly basis, we need to evaluate what is right for each child. The pros and cons are placed on the scales and looked at. So far homeschool continues to be our choice. Our children have never attended a traditional class, except to visit.

There are as many ways to homeschool as there are families doing it! Families may go completely independant, sometimes filing a private school affidavit, thus creating their own private school. Some families join an "umbrella" school, this is a private school that becomes the legal covering for the family. Many times these private schools are made up entirely of homeschooling families. Another option is to remain connected to the public school if they offer a homestudy program.

Each of these are viable options and have been successful for different families. There is no "cookie cutter" for the homeschooling!! Each situation is unique and as special as the children in them.

One of the projects that we have been working on in our homeschooling is webpage development!! You can visit each of my childrens pages (and please sign their guestbook)!
