Is your rent too much to handle? The Spokane Housing Authority (SHA) has a great rent subsidy program. If you are low-income you may qualify for one of several programs. From the list below, contact the housing authority nearest you to get an application. There are waiting lists for all programs. If you are already on their waiting list, be sure to keep your file updated with any address changes. If your name comes up and they can't reach you, you will be removed from some program waiting lists and made inactive on others. As a former SHA client I can tell you, it is worth the wait. It gave me a lot of encouragement while on my way to becoming self-sufficient. I now own my own home. SHA reported last year they got around 2,000 applications, and were able to help about 400 from the waiting list. If you are already an SHA client, do you know about the Independent Family Futures (IFF) Program? Call Jennifer Balaszi at (509) 328-2953 ext. 41. She can tell you about it; you'll be glad you did.
