Dad's Junk

epb1937@scrtc.com

Dad would always say
Don't throw those old things away;
You'll have a need of them some day.

So, he'd throw in a box all the things--
Nuts, bolts, washers, pipes and rings,
Bent nails, thread-bare screws, and broken springs.

Despite the condition and flaw,
A need for all things he saw.
To Dad, this was the common and enforced law.

Whenever he had any-sized job to do
He'd rummage and comb the box through
To salvage a bit or piece of junk that looked near new.

Dad in a voice that never sounded gruff
Always said, "Keep anything long enough
You'll find a use for it; You just need to shine and buff".
