Companionship
epb1937@scrtc.com
My husband and I enjoy
Our quiet home free of strife,
And we are probably
Aged beyond mid-life.
After supper at night
We may not talk much
Of events and happenings
or of the world and such.
We rarely go to Walmart
Or a five-and-ten
As we're satisfied
To go just now-and-then.
Many evenings I sit
And poems write
As he reads the paper
By the lamp light.
Sometimes I lie
On the couch and nap
While he the tv watches
and hears the newsmen yap.
Sometimes he sits
And will peacefully doze
While I press, mend,
And iron our clothes.
Little things he does
For me with love
Of which I
Thank my God above.
In our hearts
We love each other
And with words
We do not the other smother.
Quiet companship
We lovingly share,
And each other's presence
We're very much aware.
We're happy just to know
That we have each other here
To delight in the
other's presence so dear.
