The Field-Stone Plot
epb1937@scrtc.com
As I walk through this field-stone plot
I see markers of family long gone.
I wonder about these, my forefathers,
That have been laid to rest at each grave-stone.
Hopefully, they are at peace
As they've been laid to rest
Into this family cemetery plot
On the side of this field hillcrest.
I visit and stop by each monument and field-stone
Thinking of them with stately pride
As I walk from grave-site to grave-site.
With a sigh, I'm often bleary-eyed.
I walk by the field-stones and monuments pondering
The messages--"the daughter of...",
"the son of...", and "wife of...
In what is now a wilderness grove.
Many were lost to disease
At a very young age;
While others lived
Life to a much later stage.
To dust, all shall return;
But all will rise again
As this is a promise
God gave to those resting therein.
Do not fear, for all must die! But,
Remember! Those who die in the Lord
Will some day
Reap a just and great reward!
