Scents of Christmas

epb1937@scrtc.com

The Christmas season
Is merry and bright
With lively trimmings
And flickering candle light.

There is the sweet fragrance
Of bayberry candles which burn
When the lamp light
Low we turn.

There is the fresh aroma
Of evergreen, holly and pine
Tied with remnant bows of a favorite
Christmas dress of mine.

Fresh holly sprigs and pine cones
Are gathered from a shrub or tree
To decorate the mantel
With an outdoor scented bouquet--cost free!

The most tempting gifts
From the kitchen come
Causing everyone to sniff
The cooking smells--Yum!

There are the spices and herbs
Of ginger, cloves, cinnamon, and sage
And other holiday goodies
That give a delightful smell to please any age.

There is the homespun look under
The fresh, field-cut tree of simple style.
The pretty packages have hand-tied bows;
But to open, we'll have to wait a while.

Enjoy the distinctive, aromatic scent
Of the Christmas season
While thinking upon
The real Christmas reason.
