TO MY FAMILY AT NEW CUT ROAD BAPTIST CHURCH
Some people go thru life
Not knowing what True Friendship is,
Of not sharing God's Greatest Gift,
Or having an outreached Hand in moments of strife.
I extend Warmest Thanks to my Family of Friends
For your Prayers, your Love - I don't know where to begin;
My heart has been touched, my spirits lifted,
Your genuine love, so freely given.
As I lie here in my hospital bed
And if my spirits start to fall,
I'm suddenly reminded I'm not alone,
As I gaze at the cards on the wall.
Each one has a special meaning,
And I know has been sent from the heart,
To know that these are my friends,
Is truly the greatest gift of all.
The Creations and Words of the Young
Have lightened the load I bear,
The paper dolls so tastefully done,
Displays your love and your care.
I know God has strengthened me
Thru the miracle of your prayers,
When I look to him for comfort,
I know that he is there.
Each of you is an extension of my Family,
You hold a Special place in my heart,
The encouragement and Prayers on my behalf
Has left feelings that's hard to impart.
I pray for God's Guidance and Strength,
For each day He has given to me,
To let me live as He has Planned,
And be His Child for all to see.
Clarence Poston
November 17, 1994
The poem was written while Clarence was in the Hospital November 1994. He was there 45 days and was told he had 12-24 hours to live but thru lots of prayers and God's Grace he lived three more years. His niece, Linda Joyce Poston Burris (Doug's daughter) helped him with the poem.
(Poem is courtesy of Irene Holthouser Poston, wife of Clarence. Thanks!)
