Clan McArthur Standard Tartan
The McArthurs claim the county around Loch Awe as their home as do the MacCorquodales. They have been in Argyllshire a very long time, their homeland being Innestrarynich, shortened to Inistrynich and close to Cladich. There is a tradition that they are descended from a brother of Cailean Mor, progenitor of the Campbells. At any rate they too, were loyal friends and supporters of Bruce and were accordingly rewarded with lands lost to the McDougalls and with the keeping of the Castle of Dunstaffnage. The McArthur Family
The first of this family in America was Daniel McArthur and his wife Jennette. Daniel was born in Scotland in 1741, Jennette in 1752. They were married in 1774 and moved that same year to Robeson County, North Carolina. They had 11 children: Mary, Sarah, Duncan, Charles, John, Peter, Archibald, Neil, Alexander, Allen and Isabella. Daniel served in the Revolutionary Army from North Carolina.

In the Name of God, Amen
I, John McArthur of said State and County being of advanced age andknowing that I must shortly depart from this world, deeming it right and proper both as respects myself and my family that I should make a disposition of the property with which a kind Providence has blessed me.
Item First: I desire and direct that all my just debts be paid by my Executor hereinafter named
Second: I give and devise to my beloved wife Harriet, the west half of lot of land No. 155 my present residence and a Negro woman called Nancy and Marget her child, also an equal share with the children of allthe balance of my estate except the land and Negroes, during her widowhood, but if she should marry, a child's part only during her life, and then to be divided amonst all my children of my estate.
Third: That my Estate all remain together untilmy children all become of age, unless the Executors see that there can be something spared, have it valued and receipted for.
Fourth: The balance of my estate not willed away above both real and personal to be divided amongst all my children, To wit, Daniel P., Samuel, Mary, Sarah, John and Harriet R. McArthur.
Fifth: I constitute and appoint my three sons, Daniel P., Samuel and John McArthur Executors to this my last will and testament.
Sixth: And provided Milton Ham will return all the property that he has received from my estate, he then shall receive the amount of five dollars.

Signed, sealed, delivered and published by John McArthur as his last will and testament in the presence of us the subscribers who subscribed our names hereto in the presence of said Testator and of each other, this July the 22nd 1844: Thomas B. Little, Simeon Sikes, Matthew Sikes, William S. Doyle.
Inventory: 12 Negroes-$3755.00; 557 acres of land @ $4.50 an acre-$2506.50; various livestock; furniture; farm equipment-$1021.37. Total-$7282.87.
