The DENISON Family History
The Denison family of New England was originally from Bishop's Stratford, Hertfordshier, England. From the old parish register there, Stratford is spelled Stortford, and Denison is spelled in various ways, ie: DENYSON, DENNYSON, DENIZEN, and DENIZON as well as DENISON.
The first of this family to come to America was George Denison, son of William and Margaret (Chandler) Denison. George married Bridget Thompson around 1640. Bridget was the daughter of John and Alice Thompson. She was born 11 Sept 1622. George and Bridget had two children: Sarah b. 20 Mar 1641 married Thomas Stanton; and Hannah b. 20 May 1643, married (1) Nathaniel Chesbrough (1659) and (2) Joseph Saxton (15 July 1680). Bridget died in 1643. George married Ann Borodell. George and Ann left for America in 1645, living in Roxbury, MA, New London, CT, Stonington, CT and Mystic, CT. They were the parents of 7 children: John B. b. 14 July 1646, Ann b. 20 May 1649 (married Gershom Palmer), Borodell b. 1651 (married Samuel Stanton), George b. 1653, William b. 1653 (married Sarah Prentice), Margaret b, 1657 (married James Brown, Jr.), and Mary (or Mercy) b, 1659 d. 1670/71.
