The PLUMB Family History
The Plumb family, as far as we can determine, came from County Essex, England via John and Elizabeth Plumb. They had a son, Robert who was born around 1530 and died 18 May 1613. Robert married (1) Elizabeth Purcus and (2) Mrs. Ethelred Fuller. They lived at Great Yeldham, County Essex and had a son, Robert who was born around 1558 and died 14 Aug 1628. This son Robert married Grace Crackbone. Robert and Grace had a son, John, born 28 July 1594 Spaynes Hall, Essex. John married Dorothy Wood in 1616. Their son, Robert, was our immigrant ancestor.
Robert Plumb, accepted as son of George and Grace of Inworth, County Essex, was born in England around 1634 and died in 1696. He married Elizabeth Green (daughter of Samuel and Jane (Banbridge or Bainbridge) Green) in 1662. He was first in New London, CT around 1662. Robert and Elizabeth had 7 children: John b. 1666 (married Elizabeth Hempsted); Samuel b. 1669; Joseph b. 1671; Green b. 1673( married Mary Hempsted); Mercy b. 1677; George b. 1679 and Sarah b. 1682.
