The STANTON Family History
Thomas Stanton, who became distinguished among the first planters of Stonington, CT, was in early manhood in England and educated for a cadet. However, he did not like being a soldier and taking a deep interest in the religious principles of the migrating Puritans, he left England aboard the ship "Bonaventure" in 1625 and landed in Virginia. From Virginia, Thomas went first to Boston and then to Stonington, CT. There he married Anna (daughter of Thomas and Dorothy (Bird) Lord. Thomas Stanton died 2 Dec 1677 and is buried in Stonington.
