Quality
Quality or digital sound is often graded by it's Bit Rate.
Bit Rate refers to the amount of digital information used by a sound when it is being tranfered from the disk to the player. With digital sound, a higher bit rate often means better sound. The complaint of some about AC-3/5.1 Dolby Digital is that it uses a bit rate of 12. This seems quite good when compared to phone lines which use a bit rate of 8, but finds itself somewhere in the middle when compared to the standard audio CD with a bit rate of 16.
AC-3/5.1 Dolby Digital although only with a bit rate of 12, it requires an elite stereo system and a trained ear to find anything to get upset about. In support, the overall effect of AC-3/5.1 Dolby Digital with it's 6 channel surround sound highly outweighs any loss of sound quality as little as it is.
