The "Motorliner" Gripsholm was built in Newcastle, England for the Swedish American Line in 1925.
It had a displacement of 23,600 tons and carried 1600 passengers and 330 crew.
On July 18, 1952, the M.S. Gripsholm rescued 45 crew members from the burning Norwegian cargo vessel Black Hawk off the coast of New York.
It sailed from Gothenburg, Sweden to New York with a stop in Halifax.
Ann-Margret and her mother came to America on this ship in November 1946.
