Also facing an uncertain future is ''Homefront,'' ABC's Wednesday-night prime-time soap opera set in Cleveland just after World War II.
The series - definitely a cut above the likes of ''Dallas'' and ''Falcon Crest'' - shows a lot of class tonight (9 p.m. on Channel 2) when it winds up its season by tying up loose ends. With the show's renewal uncertain at press time, a cliffhanger ending would have been insulting to the show's fans, who are relatively small in number but passionate in devotion.
Among the issues resolved:
Will the wedding between Anne Metcalf, widow and committed Catholic, and Al Hahn, the Jewish union organizer and father of her unborn child, take place?
Will Charlie Hailey and his war bride, Caroline, survive the aftermath of the wildcat strike at the Sloan's factory?
Will baseball player Jeff Metcalf and his fiancee, Ginger Szabo, resist the temptations of the flesh before their marriage?
Will the Davises' dreams of owning their own business come true?
