Mariah Carey's Butterfly shows the maturation of Mariah from the bubble gum pop girl performing "Vision of Love" and "Emotions" to a full grown, beautiful woman with real emotions and heart in her lyrics. Although not many songs show off her absolutely dazzling voice, the album contains many R & B dance songs such as "Honey", "Breakdown", and "The Roof", as well as high powered love ballads like "Butterfly", "Whenever You Call", and "My All". It also contains extremely personal songs like "Close my Eyes" and "Outside". I did like Daydream better personally, but Butterfly definitely has its strong pluses and will probably be regarded as a better album in the future because of its adult sound. by Jim McTernan (JMcTernan@compuserve.com)
