Mariah Carey Denies Marriage Reports

Mariah Carey

Is the newly single Mariah Carey looking to dive back into marriage? Sources tell the New York Post that the songbird, who received a quickie Dominican Republic divorce from Sony exec Tommy Mottola a mere two weeks ago, is engaged to New York Yankee stud Derek Jeter. "They are planning to get married--at least that's the word from her friends in New York," one "insider" tells the paper. Jeter, however, has a different take on the affair: "I am not engaged," the ballplayer tells the Post. "I am not getting engaged. I am not getting married." Okaaay, over to you Mariah. "There is no engagement, there is no ring," the singer says. "But this seems to be turning into a three-ring circus." And it only looks to get worse. According to the Post, an upcoming, unauthorized biography of the twenty-eight- year-old Carey, penned by her estranged sister, Allison Scott, a former drug addict, will reveal more details about the her relationship with the twenty-three-year-old Jeter. Among the claims: the diva and the shortstop met way back in 1996, and allegedly started spending time together soon after even though Carey was still married to Mottola. Up until last month, Jeter denied he even knew Mariah, who has said repeatedly that she's not looking for a serious romance right now.
