Mariah splits with Sony chief husband

NEW YORK (AP) -- After nearly four years of marriage, singer Mariah Carey and music executive Tommy Mottola have decided to live apart.

The trial separation was announced through their publicists Friday. The couple said they will remain friends and continue their business relationship.

Carey, 27, who is credited with 11 No. 1 singles in her career, married Mottola in 1993. He is president of Sony Music Entertainment, for which Carey has made some of her biggest hits.

The couple have no children.
