Mariah Carey has emerged from her cocoon. The
Butterfly singer has officially ended her union with Sony
Music exec Tommy Mottola. Carey's publicist
confirmed on Friday that the twenty-eight-year-old diva
flew to the Dominican Republic on Thursday to obtain a
quickie divorce from her forty-six-year-old estranged
husband. The couple separated last May after nearly
five years of marriage. According to the New York Post,
Carey chartered a plane from Miami, where she is
vacationing, and flew to Santo Domingo, where
marriages can be dissolved in mere minutes. "This was
an amicable split, and there was no point drawing
things out," a source tells the paper. "I think both of
them wanted to move on." The Post says that the
octave-jumping singer then flew to Tampa, where she
took in an exhibition game featuring New York Yankee
shortstop Derek Jeter, with whom she has been
romantically linked for several months.
