These days, selling ninety million albums worldwide
can still leave an entertainer with an empty feeling
inside. But at least one songbird is closing in on a deal
that should satisfy her craving for big-screen stardom.
The Hollywood trades report that Mariah Carey in final
talks to star in Universal's Double-0-Soul (a.k.a. 00-
Soul), an action-comedy/spy spoof. The film stars
comedian Chris Tucker (Money Talks) as a low-level
secret agent who is instantly promoted through the
ranks after all the top government operatives are wiped
out. His new status means he gets to use all the
James Bond-like gadgets and gizmos that had
previously been off limits to him. Carey, if she signs on,
would play the stepdaughter (scantily clad, we
assume) of the film's villain. Production is scheduled to
start in July in Vancouver and Hawaii. The Butterfly
diva, who recently ended her marriage to Sony bigwig
Tommy Mottola in a quickie Dominican Republic
divorce, has dreamed about making it big in Hollywood
for a long time. She is still attached to star in the
pseudo-autobiographical All That Glitters, which
centers on a young and naïve singer who finds fame
and fortune despite the odds. It's based on an original
idea of Carey's. Go figure.
