Mariah Carey is due in the fall. She's gearing up for the arrival of her
fourth. Fourth album, that is, though the press has been pestering her about
when she will make time for mommyhood--instead of making music.
Having been married since June 1993 to record exec Tommy Mottola, Mariah,
24, who lives with her husband in a roomy mansion in Hudson River Valley, New
York, has said kids are definately part of her plan. "But not sooner than
five years."
One of the reasons Mariah plans to put off motherhood is because, she's
vowed, "I want to do it the right way." Her own childhood--growing up with a
single mom--was for from ideal, and not the kind she wants for her kids.
"It's been difficult for me," Mariah has admitted "moving around so much,
having to grow up by myself, basically on my own, my parents divorced."
Mariah wants to be totally available to her children, which is why she'll
wait until the time is right.
"I wouldn't want to be one of those people who gives my child to a nanny
to raise," she has told reporters. And as far as breaking the cycle of
divorce, she is planning parenthood with an ever-present pop. Of hubby
Tommy, she says, "I can't imagine being with anyone else."
So don't look for Mariah to be singing lullubies anytime soon. Right now
she says "I still feel like a kid myself."
