An Insecure World

I wrote this one up at Freshman LIFE which was basically a trip away to the mountains for us freshman... after listening to our chapel speaker one morning, I was plagued with thoughts. :) I ended up spending all my free "play" time inside my cabin, writing this poem... I mainly wrote it because I suppose you could say I was annoyed - watching everyone scramble to get the "popular" kids attention - and that was never my thing. :) Everyone thought I was an anti-social freak. ;) Of course, I really don't blame them - I probably was. But I was determined to write this poem. Oh! It actually ended up in the school newspaper. I felt like Queen for a Day when the monthly paper came out... I was the known girl that day. Heh heh. :)

Wandering around in your own cold world,
With the heavy weight of it on your shoulders.
You focus your sight on the world's standard,
When you should be focusing on something other than yourself.

Looking for approval from eyes that don't care,
Seeking warmth from someone's cold stare.
A life of lies gets you nowhere,
When it comes to eternal life with the one who cares.

You ignore the ones who love you,
And try to please the ones who don't.
That is an unwise way to live life,
When you could be living it to the most.

You're picture-perfect on the outside,
But you have a shallow heart below.
A mind that could do many things,
But a heart that won't grow.
