A True Friend

Sometimes you can be fooled for years
As to who are your real friends
And who aren't-
That masks covered their faces
But they were clear masks-
The masks of deceit-
And you couldn't tell
Until you ripped it off yourself...
And you were shocked with the truth.

And sometimes you discover the ones you thought were strong
Are indeed insecure
And the ones you thought you helped keep strong
Were truly strong themselves the whole time
We may help keep their heads up-
Keep them smiling
Keep them laughing
Believing-
But in the long run,
Their character perseveres...

And we end up drawing from their strength-
Their faith-
Learning from them.
Respecting them.

Suddenly, the unexpected happens...
They become the ones who hold us up
When we're going to fall.
And you discover the amazing thing of a giving friendship-
Of unconditional love-
Of a true friend...

And you never want to go back.
