This was actually my first contribution to the Buffy poem world! ;) I remember putting this up in Starbucks back on the old PB in '97. It basically was written as if Willow was writing a poem for Xander - about her true feelings. Course, now I'm all about Tara Tara Tara, but we'll ignore that for this poem alone since it's long before she came onto the scene. ;)
Why can't you see what I'm really thinking?
It's amazing how blind you seem to be,
All these years, you've seen me as a best friend,
But all these years, I've seen you as something more,
So I sit here alone, putting ink to paper,
I wonder if I'll be able to tell you all this,

For you're the one who knows me better than anyone else.
Why can't you see my heart slowly sinking?
For you're always looking beyond me at someone else.
When I'm standing right in front of you.
Suggesting what I wish you would feel for me,
But it seems to pass right by you.
Always standing by you,
Always supporting you,
And always loving you.
And I suppose that's what a best friend does...
Not only a friend,
And not only a companion,
But I've seen you as my better half.
Bringing my feelings to life.
And it's funny how close you can be to my heart,
But still not be close enough.
Even though all these words could be summed up into one phrase.
A phrase which is so simple,
Yet so hard to say,
And maybe I'll be able to say it one day...
"I love you..."
