Jennifer Love Hewitt, Brandy, Freddie Prinze Jr., and Mekhi Phifer
If you ever had any doubt as to if there was any other reason that people makes movies is to make money a sequel will dispell that myth. And a horror sequel removes the possibility of artisitc integrity even more. First the makers of Scream decided it didn't have enough money so it made the lackluster Scream 2, then the makers of I Know What You Did Last Summer decided to line their coffers some more with I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (which from now on will be refered to as I Still Know... becaause it takes to long to type and gives my fingers cramps.
Julie and Karla Wait for their men
Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) is back again, now it is exactly two years after she and her friends pushed the fisherman Ben Willis (Muse Watson) of a pier after hitting them with their car and one year after he came back seeking revenge. Julie is having lots of flashback dreams and is looking forward to a relaxing Fourth of July weekend with her boyfriend Ray Bronson (Freddie Prinze, Jr.) who also helped push Ben into the drink. Ray wants to go back to their hometown, but Julie doesn't think she can face going back to the scene of their torment so Ray goes off angry. Later on Julie's roommate, Karla Wilson (Brandy), gets a phonecall from a radio station asking for the capital of Brazil to win a trip for four to Bermuda... her and Julie guess Rio and win the trip (for those of you saying "Hey, Brasilla is the capital of Brazil!!!," I know, that is what I said at this point in the film as well... but it comes up later). Julie invites Ray who says he can't make it but that he will try to get off work.
Karla, Tyrell and Will kick it in Bermuda
When Ray doesn't show up in time Karla tells her boyfriend Tyrell (Mekhi Phifer) to bring along their friend Will Benson (Matthew Settle), who has a crush on Julie. Julie figures Ray couldn't get out of work so she goes ahead to the tropics... what they don't know is that Ray got attacked by the Fisherman and is in the hospital. Then we move ahead to a beautiful tropical setting as the four college kids arrive at the spectacular island resort, only to find it nearly deserted. They are puzzled because it is paradise, but then they learn that the next day is the begining of storm season (like Hurricane season) but this doesn't really bother them. So they start chilling until Julie keeps seeing psycho stuff like a message on a karioke machine saying "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer", and then she finds the chamber maid hanging by a meat hook in her closet. Understandably Julie is upset and wants to leave the island, but her friends thinks she is crazy because whoever killed the made cleaned up his mess before Julie could show them. Predictably more and more people start getting offed in new, creative and bloody ways, while the whole time Ray is trying to get through a huge tropical storm to save his girlfriend from the psychotic fisherman. Of course their is the series of stupid mistakes (like sitting their screaming instead of running away) and a couple of false accusations and suprising twists thrown in that are present in all horror movies, but I'll let you see those for yourself.
Julie wishes she never kick his fisherman butt off the pier
Like I said, sequels are the bane of any movie fan. Very rarely does a sequel come along that is actually worth seeing (like Godfather, Part II), and I Still Know... certaintly isn't the exception that proves the rule. In my opinion this movie had very little suspense or any real merit because it added absolutely nothing new to horror. The original I Know... didn't add that much new but at least it had a little. Sadly, this sequel was the same movie as the first with a new setting and some new characters to kill. Lets jut hope that it's makers don't decide that they need even more money by making "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Again."
