Mmmmmmmmm.... Warm Apple Pie

Every once in a while a movie comes along that makes you relive a magical moment in your life.  American Pie is not one of those movies, but it does deal with an important moment in the lives of our youth... sex, and more specifically when we lose our virginity.  With a movie dealing with such an important moment in our lives you would figure it would be kind of a serious movie... WRONG AGAIN!!!  American Pie is definitely the funniest movie of the year so far and it offers as many laughs as last years gross out humor movie, There's Something About Mary.

Just another day at East Great Falls High
Jim (Jason Biggs) talks to Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth)
while Oz (Chris Klein) and Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas) "encourage" him

High School is a difficult time for most teenagers, especially the sex obsessed guys of East Great Falls High.  Jim (Jason Biggs, TV's As The World Turns) and his best friend Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas, Rookie of the Year and A Kid in King Arthur's Court) are typical guys, Oz (Chris Klein, Election) is a LaCrosse jock and Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas, The Rage: Carrie 2) is the sophisticated book worm.  But they all have one thing in common, they have yet to be iniated into the ways of love.  The only one who is close is Kevin, whose steady girlfriend Vicky (Tara Reid, Cruel Intentions and Urban Legend) lets him get to "third base" every once in awhile.  When they finally get feed up with their current situation the four make a pact to lose their virginity by graduation, with the most opportune time being Prom Night.  Jim tries to get in good with Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth, TV's USA High) the saucy foreign exchange student.  Kevin obtains the Bible, a sexual instuction manual on how to please a woman, so he can please Vicky.  Oz tries to show he is a sensitive guy by joining the Swing Choir, where he meets Heather (Mena Suvari, Kiss the Girls and The Rage: Carrie 2) the cute little choir member who will be harder to impress then he thought.  And Finch pays off Jessica (Natasha Lyonne, Slums of Beverly Hills), an experienced friend, to spread rumors of his legendary prowess and his experience pleasing older women.

Give it up Stifler
Stifler (Sean William Scott) tries to convince a girl that he cares about her

With all this help the guys still have some problems with the women and most of them involve the school jerk Stifler (Sean William Scott) who makes Heather think Oz is making fun of her and exposes Finch for the inexperienced virgin that he is and embarrasses him in front of the whole school.  Jim comes close to scoring with Nadia, but blows it early (if you know what I mean) and the news of his lack of staying power spread throughout the school  The only girl left for him is Michelle (Alyson Hannigan, TV's Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and Dead Man on Campus), the queen of the band nerd whose most common phrase is "One time, at band camp..." followed by some boring story.  And of course Kevin is stupid and is a jerk to Vicky so she is mad at him until he can make it up to her, with the help of the Bible.  The question is can the guys make it up to their dates and keep their pact by Prom.

One Time, At Band Camp...
Jim finds his first time with Michelle (Alyson Hannigan),
the school band nerd

As long as you don't mistake American Pie for an "intelligent comedy" and try to judge it by those standards you will be in for a huge treat.  Anyone who remembers being in high school through this time of sexual confusion and frustration... or pretty much anybody who has had sex or wanted to have sex... will laugh their butts off.  One of the impressing things about how funny this movie is is the fact that the cast is full of virtual unknowns.  With the exception of Alyson Hannigan's exposure as Willow on Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and Eugene Levy's (who plays Jim's dad) stint on SCTV in the early 1980's (which most people nowadays haven't heard of anyway) and his role in 1996's critically acclaimed Waiting for Guffman I have never seens any of these actors before and have only heard of a few of they movies they have been in (and don't remeber seeing them in these movie).  And yet they still make great comedic performances.  As long as you don't mind a little "toilet" humor to get your laughs, you will love American Pie.
