ALICE'S GUIDE TO ADD

    What is Attention Deficit Disorder?

ADD is a neurochemical condition [not a psychological one}ADD affects 4 areas of peoples' behaviour in various ways. (1) Attenion Levels (2) Impulsivity Level (3) Activity Levels and (4) Organisational Ability. A child or adult can only be diagnosed with ADD if these behaviours are chronic [have existed for most of the patients life.] and severe have negatively impacted the person's life in a signifigant way.

People with ADD do not have brain damage. Their problems stem from the individual way their brains work. ADD is neurobiological disorder and does not stem from psychological problems or character faults.

Scientific evidence points to the hypothesis that ADD is genetically transmitted. A study by Joseph Biederman and colleges showed that aproximatedly 30% of parents with ADD children had ADD themselves. Other researchers have found a similar of ADD among parents. Twin studies repeatedly find higher rates of ADD in identical twins as compared to fraternal twins. A higher incidence of ADD in people who share the same genetic blueprint, versus those who share everything else but, means that the genetic makeup of the individual must be influencing the expression of the disorder.
