Greetings. My name is Gayle.

I have one Tsalagi ancestress, a grandmother several generations back, with whom I have identified since early childhood. Her name was Nancy Clark. Her husband, my g-g-grandpa Isaac Grandison Talbot, led wagon trains to California in the early to mid-19th century. He later ran supply teams to the California gold fields. The g-grandpa carried the teamstering into trucking. My mom and dad wound up with the trucking business. That was my mother's father's family. Her mother told me stories of traveling from southern California, where she was born, to Modesto by covered wagon. She died in 1987. Seems weird that things have changed so VERY much just since my grandma was a girl!
According to the research my cousin has done, Nancy Clark was a descendant of William Clark, and Isaac Talbot was a descendant of the Earls of Shrewsbury. I am uncertain of both claims.

My dad's family is full-blood Swedish with my dad being first generation American. His two uncles were the first doctors in Turlock, California. Now there is a school named after them. It's called Julien School. It's along the paternal route that Annie (my Wolf Lodge sister in Pennsylvania) and I may be distantly related. Those Johnsons and Olsons. There are plenty of them! The Johnson branch of my family changed the last name because of the plethora of Johnsons on the mail route in Minnesota where they first settled. At least this is the story told in the family.
If my mom's cousin got the history right, my g-g-g-g-grandfather was William Clark...of Lewis and Clark fame! We believe Nancy Clark Talbot was his granddaughter.

I was raised in central California with a brother and 2 sisters. I have 3 children and 4 grandchildren (counting the one we are expecting at any time now). My wonderful, marvelous, fantastic husband Tim and I met in a physics class three years ago. We have been married for 1½ years.

I am a full-time student, having decided on a career change when I moved to Alaska eleven years ago and discovered little need for Security Managers in the Last Frontier. I graduated from UAA last year with an elementary teaching credential, but decided to finish a second degree in natural sciences with an emphasis in Geology and a minor in Spanish. My purpose in getting the second degree is to either get a job in mineralogy/mining or teach in a nice, warm Spanish-speaking country.

Don't get me wrong. I love Alaska! It gets in your blood. It's an incredibly awesome, beautiful place with towering snow-capped volcanoes, beautiful blue oceans, wildlife galore, glorious long summer days, brilliant starry winter nights, and the gorgeous, mysterious Northern Lights. It's just that the older I get, the less I like dealing with ice and snow. I want to be able to ride my bike in February AND July!

I have interests in marine mammals. I helped with some of the whales in literature articles in both adult and children's sections on the Whale Watching Web. I would be very honored if you took the time to explore this link. My other interests are rocks and mineralogy, bird watching, and reading. I read mostly fantasy/sci-fi. I especially like Anne McCaffrey, Elizabeth Ann Scarborough, and Terry Pratchett. I have rather eclectic taste in music that changes from time to time. Lately I have been enjoying the music of Ana Gabriel.

I do thank you for visiting my page. I hope your return visit will be soon. I plan to be adding more pages and pictures in the near future.

Blessings,
Gayle
