Novels

The "Full Metal Panic!" novels consist of two groups. The full-length ones are pretty serious and about the battle of Mithril against various terrorists. The other ones are series of short stories carried in Dragon Magazine (aka Doramaga) and deal with comical life of Sousuke and Kaname at school. Although they are consistent as far as I can tell, they are designed to be independent from each other. Unlike "Slayers," these two are not separated by time, though. One can say they are two (very) different aspects of Sousuke and Kaname's life.

Magazine

Dragon Magazine (aka Doramaga)
月刊ドラゴンマガジン
Monthly (published near the end of the month)
670yen (current price)
This is a monthly novel magazine published by Fujimi Shobou, which carries the short-feature series of Full Metal Panic (the magazine is also known for carrying series, including Slayers, Louie the Rune Soldier, Sorcerer Orphen and Realbout High School).
Not only the magazine gives you faster access to the latest trouble caused by Sousuke but special articles carried from time to time are VERY good source of the background information. Also the illustrations by Shiki Douji are different from those used in the compilation issues. A regular subscription is highly recommended ^_^

The first of the three-CD drama series from Dragon Magazine. The story is based on one of the short novels.
The principal of Jindai High School decides to abolish its rugby club as it is phenomenally incompetent. Iwashimizu manages to persuade her to give them a last chance; a match against Garasuyama High. He sends Kaname and Sousuke to the club to train the club for victory.

The second of the three-CD drama series from Dragon Magazine. Again the story is based on one of the short novels.
On her way back home with Kyouko, Kaname bumps into Fuwa, her senior from her junior high school day. He suggests her to date, which Kaname happily agrees. Yet this decision soon makes her pensive and Sousuke notices it. Kyouko tells him the reason and they decide to follow Kaname through the date...

Tessa decides to take a summer holiday in Tokyo. Yes, she not only stays at Sousuke's flat but also disguises herself as a transfer student to Jindai High School. As expected, Sousuke doesn't know what to do while Kaname is extremely annoyed although she never admits it ^_^;;
I wish this episode will be visualised someday (oh, please!). Also I really like Minami Omi as Tessa.

The maxi-single for the OP and ED song. The ED song is, IMHO, one of the best anime song ever made. Purely in terms of music, it may not be so but the lyrics captures the essence of the series perfectly.
Given the female vocal, I thought the song was for Kaname at first but its very modest yet sincere way of expressing one's feeling seems more appropriate to Souske. Whichever, if the phrase, "I was so glad to see you. I was so proud of your hand in mine" doesn't touch you, you're not a FMP fan in my definition.

The first soundtrack CD contains BGMs and the full-length OP and ED songs (a good old PoniCany tradition ^_^). The first half of the BGM covers the serious side of Sousuke's life as a Mithril soldier, while the second half corresponds to his life as a student of Jindai High (I like the former a little better than than the latter).
I can peacefully recommend this to all FMP fans.
