This is only a small amount of the
slang used in the prison system, there are new words and younger inmates in the
system and the slang is changing everyday, different gangs with different
language, (such as my blood page, this is a prime example of totally different
use of words). If you know of any slang terms that I have not used please feel

A Ace - Main Man Ace - best friend/good friend Assed Out - broke or tired B Badge - A correctional officer Bamma - fake weed/weak weed Beat - escape, steal from another, have something stolen Beat Your Feet - Order by an officer for a prisoner to move out of an area BI - business Bid or bit - conviction and/or sentence Bing - special housing unit Bird Head - stupid male/or female, usually used towards females Birds on the Line - Warning that someone is listening to a conversation Bitch ass pussy - means C.O. whom they don't like and is possibly on a hit list Bitch-up - back down from any given situation Blaze - cut or slice someone Blocks - Cell Houses Blunt - joint made with cigar Boat - bus transfer of inmates Bone - joint or cigarette Bone yard - Family (conjugal) visiting area Booty bandit - person who induces sex with same gender Bounce - leave (same as jet) "Time for me to bounce" Boss - An officer -- some say it is "sorry son of a bitch" spelled backwards Box - tape and radio, special housing unit Brick shit house - one with a fine shape (built like) Broad - word used to a female Bugged out - one who acts crazy Bug juice - medicine, kool aid Bug out - acting abnormal Bug report - report of prison psychiatrist Bull - Guard Bull Scare - Bluff Bum wire - false information Butch kid - aggressive youth Butcher's Hook - Take a look Buy - Buy - going to the commissary C Call list - drop by for interview dentist, doctor, ect Cell gangster - tough guy when locked in, but chicken when locked out Cellie - Cellmate Champing - Removing tobacco from the Black & Mild cigar Cheddar - money Cheese Eater - An informer Chester - Child molester Chill out - be cool, calm down Cho cha - private area of females CI - cigarettes Coming out your face wrong - saying stupid things Commissary - two meaning (1) store in prison; (2) private area of females C.O. - Correctional Officer Cop - gain possession of Cop out - admit to an act Count - The institutional count, repeated at different times in the day. Everything stops while prison staff make sure no one is missing. May be referred to as the "count time". In the federal system, an unscheduled count. May be referred to as "census count" Cowboy - New officer. Spelled backwards, it's "yobwoc." "young, obnoxious, bastard we often con." Crimey - fellow prisoner who was a member of one's gang or partner C.R. - (Conditional Release) the release of an inmate before he serves his full sentence under certain specific conditions set by the parole board. Failure to comply with the conditions will result in returning to prison and finishing the full sentence Crate - a carton of cigarettes Crazy money - lots of money in commissary account Crib or house - penthouse - inmate's cell Cut up - suicide, cutting your wrists D Dead Prez - money Dime(piece) - cute, fine, all that Dime dropper - snitch Ding him - Swing at him sneakingly Dip the spot - Leave the area Doing a pound - serving a five year sentence Doorag - nylon head scarf for hair grooming (flattens hair) Draft - transfer of inmates Dropper - heating units to heat water (stinger) Dumd - a lot/many Dyke - lesbian E Escape dust - Fog Exit - leave F Face Card -100 Dollar Bill Fish - A new prisoner Fish, Fishing - pass a note from one cell to next using a "fishing line" Fishing Line--thin piece a material with a weight on the end Fish Row - Cells where new prisoners are placed Five-O - means C.O For the head - something to get high Four minute job - Shower Fresh meat - new person Fruit Cake - faggot G Gallery - section of inmate living area, inside a block Get over - get away with something Good time - time taken off sentence Goon squad - group of officers used to break up disturbances Go up on - fight (throw your hands up) Gotham City--New York City H Hack, police, man - correction officer Hallkeeper - officer in charge of cell hall (block officer) Hammed up - Getting Punked Hamster, yam - black person Handle it - take care of it, put up with it Hanging - left waiting for someone Hanging up - suicide, hanging themselves Have a body - killed someone on the street Heart - guts Hella - very Hit - inmate came back from parole board and did not get parole Hole - special housing Holiday routine - movies, into the yard for inmates Homeboy, homie, honcho - from the same hometown (neighborhood) or buddy Homo, fagot - homosexual Honkey - white person I got your back - I'll back you on this fight Hump - sex I It's all gravy - it's all good J Jail house lawyer - inmate who is up on the law Jail house punk - made a homosexual in prison Jelly - Jealous Jet - leave (same as bounce) "Time for me to jet" Jitterbug - young gang fighter Joint - penis knife, marijuana, institution Jo-Mama - your mother ( derogatory) Juice - power, persuasive sway as in political pull Juice - information Jump street - from the beginning Jumping the gun - jumping to conclusion K Keeplock - disciplinary confinement Kite--pass an unauthorized letter L Laws - Correctional officers. Living Large - an inmate with lots of commissary, money and the latest fashions. Loaf--Loaf of bread made with pureed veggies given as a disciplinary sanction Lock Box - controls which open and close the cells Lock-down - When prisoners are confined to their cells.
