M-bodies on TV and Movies

If you know of any M-bodies that have appeared on TV or movies, send me an e-mail and I will add it to the list.

18 Wheels of Justice

One of TNN's new Wednesday night shows. A blue Diplomat/Gran Fury gets wrecked in the first episode and shows up in the commercials for the show afterwards.

200 Cigarettes

Another movie with M-bodies.

A-Team

On the episode "Bullets & Bikinis," there is a nice looking 5th Avenue. Also, there is a Diplomat shown during the theme song.

On the episode "Breakout!" a Diplomat is sent crashing into a house, and appears to have not sustained much damage.

Ace Ventura--Pet Detective

All the police cars seen on this movie are Diplomats. (With the exception of one lone Chevy Impala.)

Affliction

Academy Award winning film with Nick Nolte as a small town New Hampshire cop coming unhinged. Nolte's character drives a white Gran Fury police car.

Armageddon

In the movie "Armageddon", a Diplomat taxi is briefly pictured right after the President announces that the mission has apparently failed. The scene shows a deserted downtown New York with abandoned cars everywhere. A lone man with a sign that reads "THE END IS NEAR" or something like that is standing on the roof of the Dippy. (Might be a Gran Fury)

Aurora:Operation Intercept

An American AF pilot takes on a Russian saboteur. There are a couple of Virginia State Police and Fairfax County Virginia Fire Department M-bodies seen briefly.

Back To The Future II

When Marty returns to the alternate 1985, there is a wrecked Diplomat police car.

Basketball Diares

There are several M-bodies in this movie.

Basic Instinct

Michael Douglas drives a red Gran Fury as his undercover police car.

Beverly Hills Cop II

First and best sequel to the Eddie Murphy block-buster. Detectives Taggert and Rosewood drive an M-body (a Gran Fury I think).

Burglar

Whoopi Goldberg as a small time thief accused of murder. Lots of SFPD M-bodies, F-bodies, and R-bodies.

Cagney & Lacey

They drive unmarked police M-bodies in New York City.

Cannonball Run

There are several M-body police cars on this movie.

Clay Pigeons

A really strange serial killer movie with a few Diplomats running around in it, including two very nastily painted (gold colored bodies with burgundy striping) Montana Sheriff's cars at the end.

Colors

Some M-bodies (even though the LAPD never used them) show up in this Dennis Hopper directed movie about the LAPD anti-gang unit known as "CRASH."

COPS

The first couple of years of the series in Broward County Florida had Diplomats in nearly every segment. You can still catch these episodes on "Court TV".

Days of Thunder

Has 2 North Carolina Highway Patrol Diplomats pulling over the race team car transporter.

Dragnet

The movie Dragnet (with Dan Akroyd and Tom Hanks) has several Diplomats as CHP cars.

Dead On-Relentless 2

Another low budget, very good movie about the search for an LA serial killer. A couple of Diplomats show up as detective cars, including, once more, the brown/copper colored car from "Basic Instinct" and "The Presidio".

Downtown

White suburban cop (Anthony Edwards of "ER" fame, gets partnered with black inner city cop (Forest Whittaker of "The Crying Game" and "Bird"). Lots of Philadelphia PD M-bodies and a couple of good chases.

Due South

The early episodes and even some later ones have many Diplomat taxis, even a couple with spotlights!

On one episode, a Gran Fury is constantly appearing at different locations throughout a used car lot.

Ernest Saves Halloween

This movie, like many others, has M-body police cars.

Fallen

The police detective in this movie drives a blue Diplomat.

Fatal Beauty

Whoopi Goldberg as an LAPD narc. Some LAPD M-bodies running around and parked at crime scenes.

Ferris Buellers Day Off

A "Village of Shermer, Illinois" Diplomat chases Jeannie Bueller and Mrs. Bueller while they're having an argument.

Greatest American Hero

Bill Maxwell drove a Diplomat police car.

Hunter

Many diplomats were seen on this detective show, at least once every other episode.

The Hard Way

The movie with James Woods and Michael J. Fox called "The Hard Way" used diplomats for detective use and squad car use!

In the Heat of the Night

At least one episode has a blue unmarked police Diplomat.

LA Heat

One of many LAPD detective shows. No M-bodies as copcars (correctly), but there are 5th Avenues in several episodes.

License To Kill

There are many Diplomat police cars outside the airport near the beginning of this James Bond movie. There is also an "R-Body" St. Regis with DEA markings.

Manhunter

Quite a few M-bodies running around in this one. A very good movie made by the folks who did "Miami Vice" based off the Thomas Harris >novel "Red Dragon". Also introduces Hannibal Lecter.

Maniac Cop 2

A cop framed for murder and thought to be dead returns to exact vengeance on those responsible for sending him to death row. Lots of NYPD M-bodies and a sequence in the NYPD junk yard that all of us would love to get the chance to be in for a couple of hours.

Miami Vice

Miami Vice used the Diplomat as the car of choice for most of the detectives on the show.

Midnight Run

One of the bad guy bounty hunters in this Robert DeNiro action/comedy drives an M-body that goes over a cliff.

Naked Gun

When Frank gets off the plane they drive off in a Diplomat.

Niagra, Niagra

Lovers on the lam story with Henry Thomas and Robin Tunney. Thomas drives a nice M-body cop-car that gets crashed about mid-way through the movie.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

A Diplomat or Gran Fury is the highway patrol car in "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" which pulls over the burnt Chrysler LeBaron piloted by Steve Martin and John Candy.

Practical Magic

This movie has M-body taxis.

The Presido

Mark Harmon's SFPD detective drives an M-body that looks suspiciously like the one Michael Douglas drove in "Basic Instinct".

The Professional

There are many M-body police cars in this movie.

Risky Buiness

Another movie with M-body police cars.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil

Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder comedy actioner. NYPD M-bodies all over the place.

Short Time

This movie had M-bodies galore as police cars.

The Sketch Artist

One of those bad movies that's actually pretty good. Jeff Fahey's an LAPD sketch artist trying to find an assassin. His character drives a medium blue colored Diplomat with what sounds like a slant six engine in it. (Must be his personal car; LAPD never used M-bodies).

Sleepwalkers

Vampire movie based from a Stephen King story. Has a long chase sequence between a Sheriff's Department Diplomat and a shape shifting Trans-Am.

Thelma & Louise

This movie has M-bodies in a familar role: police cars.

Speed Zone

This movie has M-bodies galore. Many Diplomats, Gran Furies, and LeBarons.

Thunderheart

The movie "Thunderheart" (also a very good movie) I *think* has a few Dippys in a major chase scene towards the end, and possibly one used by Val Kilmer at times during the middle of the movie.

To Live and Die In LA

Several M-bodies and R-body Plymouths. Violent; not for the faint of heart in some scenes. The chase sequence alone is worth renting it, even if the cop-car of choice is a Chevy.

U-Turn

Sean Penn tries to escape the mob in a small town in New Mexico, and Jennifer Lopez gets him in even more trouble. The Sheriff of the town drives a white M-body.

The Usual Suspects

This movie had many, many M-bodies as New York City police cars.

Walker, Texas Ranger

The episode "Point After" has an 80's 5th Ave run off the road by a Chevy Suburban. The 5th flips and isn't badly damaged, but it then explodes.
