Wired buses celebrate half-century of service

This month our trolley buses will have been quietly humming about the city for 50 years - so we're marking the occasion with a festival.

The Omnibus Society, with support from the City Council and bus company Stagecoach Wellington, is staging the festival from 25-28 March.

Trolley buses from Wellington's past as well as those from other cities will be seen doing what they do best - trundling unobtrusively about the city streets.

A vintage trolley bus - Number 205 - will circulate the city, carrying a display of trolley bus memorabilia. People will be able to climb aboard and relive some of Wellington's fascinating public transport past.

Over 100 overseas visitors have booked to join with bus buffs from around New Zealand in the planned activities. If you would like to take part please contact "Trolley Bus Festival", PO Box 9801, Wellington or email obnz@ihug.co.nz.
