Buddy Holly

Biography

Charles Hardin Holley was born in 1936, soon afterwards he began to develop a great love for music. As a child he learned to play the violin and piano, before he realized his true love was the guitar. At the tender age of 13, he and his guitar began to play in local clubs. He quickly jumped into the rock scene, he was signed temporality by Decca records after a talent scout was at a performance in which he opened for Bill Halley and the Comets. After recording a few singles for Decca, they decided that he needed more time to develop, so they sent they young Holley home. He was not discouraged though, upon returning home he formed his own band, The Crickets (Ironically, the name Beatles, stemmed from the Crickets, as a form of parody as well as respect.) Once again he was signed on by Decca records after a few years of toiling in the local club scene. This is where he changed his surname from Holley to Holly, due to a misspelling the record contract with Decca. They became an instant success in the United States and in Britain. The Crickets were more popular in Europe in 1958, when they toured. This proved to be a major influence on the Beatles, who were still in the formidable years, as the Quarrymen. Unfortunately. Holly's career came to an abrupt ending. He, along with Richie Valens and The Big Bopper died in a plane crash in 1959. Although he was only in the rock and roll limelight for two years, he is still popular with audiences of all ages, nearly 40 years after he first started in the business. His death at the age of 22, left the music scene wide open. The plane crash claimed three of the rising stars in the music industry. He started something great, and left it for someone else to finish. Judging by the similar style of falsetto vocals, it seems that the Beatles were the ones to carry on what Holly had started.
