Mindy McCready Biography

Malinda Gayle McCready was born on the November 30th 1975 in Fort Myers, Florida. She began singing at an early age, performing solo in church aged 3 and began to take singing lessons when she was 10. She discovered country music while babysitting at a friend's house where she came across some Alabama records. Later, she started singing country songs in the Karaoke bars around Fort Myers and dreamt of becoming a country singer "like Reba McEntire".

When she finished high school aged 16 (which she graduated with honors), she decided to go to Nashville and make her dream come true. However, her mom was not to happy about it, as she wanted her to become a lawyer. After many arguements, her mom decided to let her go on the condition that if she didn't sign a recording contract in a years time, she would return to Florida and study pre-law.

Only the day after she arrived in Nashville, she met up with producer Norro Wilson at a publishing company. He was so impressed by the talent of Mindy, he introduced her to David Malloy, and in two weeks began recording demos in the studio. After 51 weeks in Nashville and time running out, she auditioned "live" in RCA head Joe Galante's office (the only other performer to do this were the Judds).

He promptly gave her a record deal, and the rest, as they say, is history.
