"A FRIEND in need is
a friend indeed," so goes the saying. It was past lunchtime when
Rico and I met at Racks Glorietta. I was expecting to meet a fancy-looking
guy with a lot of confidence bordering on "look who's coming" (just like
a band who recently won an award! They are so yabang. Hey
guys, if you are up, there's no way but down.)
Anyway, I was exited
because here is one band guy who looked so unaffected and self-effacing.
One wouldn't even notice him unless you are a regular band watcher.
Our song this week,
"Elesi," is about a friendship,barkada, ka-tsong. Rico Blanco
has written it from a really deeply-felt sense of friendship. This
guy is a true friend.
AIRPLANE
"Elesi" starts as a
story in an airplane. "Kasi nasa eroplano kami," Rico recounts.
"Galing kami ng Palawan... pabalik kami sa Manila galing sa isang provincial
tour. Hayun! Doon ako sa bintana ng eroplano. Wala namang elesi
yun dahil jet yun."
"Pero yon, naisip
ko ELESI. Uy! Ang gandang word. Unang-una, hindi ko alam kung
paano i-spell. Elese. Elisi... hindi ko alam. Pero alam
ko, noong bata pa ako, parati kong sinasabi: Huy! Huy! Elesi, o.
tingnan mo yung elesi, o. Tapos naisip ko, magandang simbulo ng kaibigan...
