Welcome to my abuse/recovery resource pages. I decided to put these together for many reasons. First of all, when you're feeling horrible, reaching out for help or comfort is so much easier if you have a set place to go to get a collection of information. Secondly, awareness is important; silence feeds abuse, and helps keep it going. The abuser is safe when there is silence, because there are no consequences to face. The victim/survivor, often feeling he or she is alone, or not knowing what kind of help is 'out there', bears a silent burden. Society also bears no responsibility if there is silence, because it is easier to pretend that we don't see what is there, that there is no problem. The more people speak up, the more people refuse to be ignored, the harder it will be to pretend that violence doesn't exist. My goal is to help you find your way to as many people's voices as possible.
In that light, should you not find what you are looking for here or on any of the sites listed below, you may want to check out Escaping Hades, which is a fabulous resource that includes, among other things, an abuse resources search engine that some kind soul has put together.
Here I have put together a list of crisis hotlines that deal with a variety of problems. If you need one of these numbers, please use it; sometimes reaching out to a voice on a crisis line is much easier than reaching out to someone in person. If you have any suggestions for numbers to add, or find one of the numbers no longer working, please let me know
If you have been raped, here is what to do

SPECIAL NOTE:I am interested in compiling a list of links to pages dealing with male rape and abuse. I am doing this in large part because I have known so many men who've been abused but feel like they have to remain alone in what they've gone through. It is INCREDIBLY difficult to be a woman and have to go through some of the things we go through, and some of the dangers that face us. To be a man and have to deal with all of this, in addition to having to deal with this concept that Western society has of men as being invulnerable . . . even the idea is mindboggling. Please, if you have any suggestions of web pages dealing with male abuse, please mail me. You may for the moment look at what I currently have available.
As a reminder: I am not responsible for the above pages; I merely provide a link to them. Any questions or comments in reference to specific information found on any of the above pages should be directed to the author of the page, and not to me, as I have no control over what goes into them. That said, please enjoy the links! Remember, we only lose this battle against violence if we keep the silence. BREAK THE SILENCE!
And, in the spirit of breaking the silence, I want to direct your attention to a website and organization called Hatewatch. On the opening page you will see, in continuous fade-in/fade-out, the names of those killed by senseless violence. Please visit. (Special Note: it has come to my attention that the founders of Hatewatch no longer feel the site is necessary. While I am sure their reasons are valid, this saddens me. I've left the link up for the time being because, at least at this moment they have left an explanation up.)
In addition to the online information above, I have the beginnings of a bibliography of written material (mainly books) that you may wish to check out.
From here, you may go back to the main page, or find out why I've decided to put these pages up.
