Welcome to the Voting Booth...

'...You can't change the world
But you can change the facts
And when you change the facts
You change points of view
If you change points of view
You may change a vote
And when you change a vote
You may change the world...'
-Depeche Mode, "New Dress" (Black Celebration)

How many times have you found yourself complaining about something, and wondering how you could "get involved" and make some change? I'll admit, it's not like helping to end world hunger or creating peace in wartorn areas... but when you vote, you make things happen.

Here are a few ways you can influence change, make someone's day a little brighter, express an opinion or two, perhaps help award a Community Leader who really deserves it the recognition of Community Leader of the Month. Isn't it time that you gave a little something back to your community?

So, what are you waiting for?

Your Personal Online Anonymous Confessional!
Have a little fun and participate in my own little poll - the PaisleyPoll. I'll be asking such all-important questions as whether you've ever used someone else's toothbrush to fish something out of the drain and then hidden it from them... and other such pressing issues! You can use your real handle and email address, or use mine if you want to be anonymous (where's your sense of adventure, Horace? *wink*)

Anyway... take the short and exclusive PaisleyPoll and let me know if you have any suggestions for future voting issues! Visit the corkboard to discuss the poll, or leave suggestions... and be sure to return for the latest poll results after you've participated!

Let GeoCities Know What You Think!
Recently, GeoCities was acquired by Yahoo! and is now known as Yahoo!Geocities. You might have noticed that things have changed quite a bit around this ol' online community... you aren't getting your GeoPoints statements (although your account is being debited on time for programs like GeoPlus), your email isn't being answered or you are sent a reply that doesn't even address your question, as well as numerous other annoying changes such as the "new and improved" file manager that makes working on your page a voyage into annoyance. In fact, you probably don't feel much like you're a part of the best Internet community anymore at all! Have you noticed that the "prefered" service to GeoPlus members doesn't exist anymore? I'm one of the long-timers here at GeoCities (3 years and counting at the same address - 17+meg site, "Landmark site" award winner) and I'm sad to say that things have really gone down the tubes. I've noticed all of those things happening in our GeoCities neighbourhood and more, all in the past few weeks. So I'm putting out a call to all of you websurfers... please let GeoCities know how you feel about the service they give you. Whether it is positive feedback ("Hey! Thanks for fixing the blahblahblah") or negative ("I'm unhappy with the service I'm getting from you and here is why") please make it constructive and detail exactly what happened. We want GeoCities to improve their services, and the only way is to let them know how you feel... in a mature manner. This long-time Homesteader thanks you for submitting your input! *smile*

Violations! We've all seen them...
Sometimes Homesteaders don't read the GeoCities guidelines carefully enough, and put up images or content on their pages that isn't allowed (let's give them the benefit of the doubt... I don't like thinking that someone would deliberately violate Content Guidelines). If you come across a site that clearly violates the Guidelines, such as pornography or hacking pages, do not contact the Homesteader yourself. You can do your Community a great service by letting GeoCities know and submitting their site to Alert (which you can do anonymously). The people at Alert will check out the violation and either have the Homesteader remove the offensive material, or yank the page altogether. So, the moral here is it's worth it to keep yourself updated of the Guidelines, and make sure you follow them... just in case you wake up one day to find out someone else has moved into your home.

Thanks for your input! *smile* As you can see, there are many ways to get involved within the Interet and GeoCities Community. As Yahoo!GeoCities has currently suspended programs like Community Leader of the Month, Featured Pages, the A-List, and other "get involved" community areas, the Voting Booth is a little less crowded nowadays. Please contact me or use the corkboard if you have any comments, complaints, kudos or suggestions for tidbits to add here, or to list something that don't fit into the above voting areas.
