This Poll question came from a thought I had about how people react to what others do to them. I wanted to know which person in your life has the most power over you, the one who could hurt you the most. I figured there were a few areas where a betrayal of trust would cause the most heartbreak. The query was:
16% of pollsters said A parent10% of pollsters said A sibling or other family member
35% of pollsters said My first boyfriend/girlfriend
6% of pollsters said A co-worker or colleague
33% of pollsters said My wife/husband/equivalent
The highest percentages were very close - 33% and 35% - and both of those dealt with a romantic love of some sort, with someone you should be able to trust. And while it seems that we're doomed to be screwed over by our sweethearts at some point in our lives, I still believe in love (and I bet you do too, right?)
There was one opinion posted on the Corkboard and it was as follows (and I don't claim to know what they were talking about, I just report 'em as they posted 'em): FreakSauce wrote "It's not a single person that has broken my heart, it's society for being cruel, egoistic hypocritew towards those poor animals suffering from hunting, polluting and abusing humans. That really hurts me, and that crack in my heart will never e fixed...". Abuse of any sort is always heartbreaking, and animal cruelty certainly is a betrayal of trust, but I was talking personal experience FreakSauce!
My own vote wasn't tallied - just in case you were wondering, I didn't add my opinion to this PaisleyPoll. Maybe this means the biggest heartbreak for me to experience is yet to come? I dunno.
Thanks to all who voted, and to those who took the time to either select another thing to teach a child or expand on their choices from the poll. Now... have you already taken the latest PaisleyPoll? Or perhaps you'd like to become further enlightened through the PaisleyPoll archives:
