The PaisleyPoll - Latest (Anonymous) Results

This PaisleyPoll was, fortunately, the longest-running poll I've had yet. I couldn't get the results for it because GeoCities accidently omitted the link to get to them. However, this worked out in our favour because there were a lot of results tallied, including some opinions on the Corkboard. So the feedback was great! The query was:

If you could teach a child
only *one* thing, what would it be?

The results follow:
32% of pollsters said Respect towards all living things

54% of pollsters said Love for themselves and others

6% of pollsters said Fairness

7% of pollsters said Patience

1% of pollsters said None of the above - I'll add my opinion on the Corkboard!
The Corkboarders opinions were as follows (and I don't claim to know what they were talking about in all instances, I just report 'em as they posted 'em): "grab the bull by the horns", "always believe in yourself", "perspective - understanding what is and what is not important", "common sense over book sense" (huh?), "if you are nice, good things happen - if you hurt others, bad things happen", "common sensibly correct way of living. Not just what some people would think, but the only way to have peace and unity in any situation" (double huh?), "love for themselves and others" (although this *was* an option within the Poll), "understanding of all people", "to follow thier (sic) dreams without regard for the limits that others try to set for them", "empathy", "honesty, fairness, forviveness" (that's 3 things, Einstein!), "tolerance", and 5 comments of various religious convictions.

Personally? My vote went to "Respect toward all living things". If you can respect yourself, your family, your neighbours, pets and animals, your co-workers... if you can respect their privacy, their property, their feelings, their right to find happiness... then you have also learned love, fairness, patience, understanding and all other things that make life so wonderfully liveable. DragonGrrl said it best when she left her corkpost:

DragonGrrl said: Just wanted to expand on my answer... I would really teach a child to have respect for all living things. But in this, I believe the other choices would come naturally. My opinion... :)

I find it interesting that so many people think it's more important to love than to respect. Thanks to all who voted, and to those who took the time to either select another thing to teach a child or expand on their choices from the poll. Now... have you already taken the latest PaisleyPoll?
