Gwyneth of Avalon - Medieval and Renaissance Reviews

The Lady Gwyneth presents a delightful collection of reviews for sites that treat of medieval and renaissance topics. The wit and charm of her presentation makes this a very pleasant realm to visit, and the sites she includes are as well.

Nemo Nox Cyberhome

Among other things, you will find Wicked Tales, Literary Adventures, Photos, Fractals, Games, Movie Scripts, Fishing Stories, and much more.

In Search of the Philadelphia Experiment

Wit and scholarship blend to make this an intriguing site. I shall borrow the author's introduction to describe the topic: "The ‘Philadelphia Experiment’ is a compelling piece of fringe-science conspiracy theory, that proposes that experiments into invisibility during the second world war led to warships disappearing and re-appearing up and down the coast of America, with a good deal of inter-dimensional teleportation thrown in for good measure. Henry Ritson rolls up his sleeves, heads off in search of hard evidence, and finds it has vanished without a trace..." Don't stop at the bottom of the page - the links about other ... curious incidents are no less worth checking!

Minna Vainio: Hot Artist from the Cold Country

Excellent original paintings are exhibited at this Finnish site. Minna's paintings have a great depth of expression.

The Irreverent Guide to 'Lost in Space'

You'll find satirical comedy writing at its best here, in the "episode guide" to "Lost in Space" - one of the worst television shows in history. The author's version of the antics of the Space Family Robinson is outrageous.

USS OAKLAND CL/CLAA-95

I believe that there is little in this world that is mere coincidence, and would prefer to term it providence that I happened to review this site on the anniversary of Pearl Harbour's bombing (which is mentioned in the site's header.) Though it may not be in the category of web wizardry as yet, the information and links will be of interest to those who served on the many ships that are mentioned, and in particular the shipmen of the USS Oakland.
I hope this special award will cause us all to remember those who lost their lives in war.

Audradella Plus Size Fashions

First ranking site for online shopping. The fashions are elegant and hip - unlike the usual "corporate" look that too often is all a plus-sized lady can find - and the online ordering and customer service is outstanding. Well designed, efficient site.

The Mystic Forest

The graphics and backgrounds on this site are breathtaking. The Lady of the Forest hosts a metaphysical, commercial site where she offers tarot, astrology, and psychic readings and classes in the related subjects. The design of the site is truly beautiful.

MIDI File Central - The Ultimate MIDI Archive

Neil Burton's ingeniously designed site presents MIDI files of some of the highest quality that I have found on the WWW. He also provides background information on the technology. The collection is quite extensive, and I spent much of my own time in The Beatles' section. Neil's rating system is quite reliable, and, if you click on one that he's awarded five stars, I guarantee a treat.

Imladris

This interesting, original site has both a Celtic and New Age flavour. Amongst the topics are the history of the tarot, Voyager, web site creation, and readings about past lives. And how could I resist a site that has a living room where virtual Earl Grey tea is offered?

The Lizards

Delightfully witty page well described by its authors as follows: "Out of the turmoil of the Sixties and the craziness of the Eighties the Lizards are back! Yes, those nuts of the woods have reformed their group (put the group back together... not gotten any better) and are back on the trail. The Lizards are all about having good clean fun hiking and camping in interesting and beautiful places."

University Experiment Farm at Kearnysville

This site treats of a tree fruit research centre in West Virginia, and is chock full of information. I'm sure the authors won't mind if I bestow their award in memory of my late father, who never saw a web site (or, in all likelihood, read a book), but who was a grocer with a respect for produce that bordered on reverence.

World of Lady Wolf

Creative site about nature, endangered species, and Native American culture. I found Lady Wolf's "den" to be impeccably designed and am sure that anyone interested in animals, the environment, or Native American customs will learn something new here.

GhostWolf - Out of the Abyss

Very professional design enriches this deep and intriguing presentation of the poetry and writing of one who is "Cherokee, Choctaw, European .. and an abuse survivor."

The End Zone

The webmaster described the site well:"THE END ZONE contains all the things site visitors always want to see (roster, stats, box scores, previews, news, etc.) but it also has a lot of unique features that cannot be found anywhere else on the web ...".

Yellow Tulip Press

Their "curious chapbooks and hysterical histories", not to mention the Sable Room, "a place of mystery that's not for the faint of heart", are delightfully humourous and interesting. Yellow Tulip Press is a publishing house, from which you can obtain more of the fun stuff that you sample online. The writings and creative and fun - find out the details of Lizzie Borden and (Queen) Victoria's Dark Secrets.

The Bible and C.S. Lewis

This well-developed study explores the Christian world view through the words of the Bible and the writings of C.S. Lewis. The site's author presents various aspects of both, and it is a delightful illustration of how faith and intellectual gifts are intended to be used in conjunction with each other.

Moreno Valley Police

The Moreno Valley Police, southern California, offer varied information, both pertinent to their location and of general interest. There are a number of valuable safety tips, advice about crime prevention, actual police broadcasts, and more. Parents, especially, will want to check the information on this site, some of which is specifically aimed at children's safety.

Raven's Nest

Raven's Nest offers a potpourri of fun and entertainment. A few of the topics include much about the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, humour, trivia, and a MIDI jukebox (200+ tunes to enjoy).

The Cherry Ames Page

I've never read the Cherry Ames books, but this site made me want to purchase a few. It's a fun, nostalgic spot, with all sorts of Cherry Ames information, trivia, and games. Cherry's character was a combination of nurse and detective - and that combo tends to be quite remarkable in children's literature.

Winter's Page

This very pleasingly designed site is well written and gives one a thought or two to ponder. Winter is an eclectic pagan who follows her own, original path, of which she speaks in several interesting essays. She also offers free tarot readings, her grimoire, recipes, free graphics, and information about the BBS that she has run for 11 years.

Godey's Ladies Book Online

Enjoy a long look at articles and features from the popular ladies' magazine of the 1800s.

Through Darkling Glass

The professional writing and artwork on this delightfully mysterioso, regularly updated fantasy zine will be a treat for those who enjoy the genre.

Brotherhood of the Crimson Knights

Travel into the times of the noble knights who seek to save Britannia. This fantasy and role-playing site is one of the best of its kind that the Lady Gloriana has seen in her vast travels.

Sailor Moon Fan Fiction Headquarters

This slick site has all sorts of stories, poems, and information to delight fans of Sailor Moon.

Development & Landmark Forms of Television Comedy

Interesting essay that highlights the different forms of television comedy developed in the United States. One hopes the author is collecting more extensive reflections for a book length presentation - this is the "survey" sort, without in depth analysis. But I've heard it takes PhDs some time to become web wizards...

OperNetta

Online production of Countdown, an opera for the nuclear age. The English libretto and audio recordings (.au format) all are presented at this site. I'm pleased to present this award for an original idea and interesting application of Web resources (even if my tastes run more to Verdi:).

The History of Costume

Online edition of the 19th century classic, well presented and with quite interesting content.

Shakespeare and the Internet

Though I generally do not give the award to sites that are largely composed of links, this annotated guide, which also is unusually comprehensive, certainly deserves recognition. It is an excellent starting point for research related to Shakespeare on the WWW.

Classical Net

Listings and informational files for thousands of resources related to classical music.

The Activist Network - Help Stop Sexual Abuse!

Laura and Jake share much of themselves in this very useful site, which provides resources for survivors of sexual abuse, their partners, and anyone interested in political activism in the area. I was deeply impressed and touched by their sharing their stories, and am pleased to award the site for its service to the Web community.

Church Net UK

This well-designed, easily navigated site contains a number of interactive services, such as discussion groups, news services, and "questions and answers" on Christian themes. It also has an extensive, well-organised library of Christian resources, and directories for all denominations.

The Nebula and Goatman's Web Site

The graphics are fabulous - but make certain that you don't miss the Goatman's original poetry.

Wererat's Lair

Original, to say the least! Kristin has assembled varied information, from mythology and folklore, about wererat's - and also about having rats as companions. (Leonora doesn't approve of the latter, of course.)

Witch's Brew

Different though Morgan's beliefs are from my own, her thoroughness of content and excellent presentation make this site quite outstanding. Richness of content is the main consideration for this award, and that on this page is most intriguing, and equally of interest to those who are students of Celtic traditions and the history of the "old religions", of which memories of many beliefs were quite prevalent in the Middle Ages.

Powers Court

Interesting Viking/Celtic/Medieval themes, including downloadable graphics and chat areas.

Sexual Offense Recovery Online

This site treats the two critical aspects in dealing with sexual abuse: treatment for the victim and the offender. I am pleased to award this excellent site for their valuable and unique contribution. Online consultation is available, for victims of sexual abuse, offender treatment, and marriage, family, and child counselling. The first E-mail session with a licensed therapist is free. Also visit the affiliated site Shasta Treatment Center, a non-profit corporation in Northern California which offers counselling in these areas.

Mysticism - Welcome from the Mining Company

Interesting collection of essays from various traditions and from mythology.

Glenda Moore and Bob Miller

I laughed aloud at some of the items in this mixed bag! In particular, don't miss Bob's multimedia autobiography, Glenda's faeries, or (Leonora's tapping me with her paw!) the Catstuff page, which has many a word of feline wisdom as well as graphics in the same motif.

COPatch

Law enforcement site, with a touching memorial wall dedicated to policemen killed in the line of duty. Original idea.

The Sidhe Door

This is an intelligently written, attractively presented site that features original poetry, a child's composition about Celtic faerie tales, and a presentation of the writer's Wiccan religion. The graphics are well done and pages have a pleasing design. Though the site is not scholarly, it is an interesting sampler of several subject areas.

Mike's Chicago Bulls Homepage

This is a very professionally presented sports page - by one who is clearly an ardent fan! Sounds, pictures, schedules, live Java chat, and more will delight any Chicago Bulls fan or other sports afficianado.

The Truth Lies In Red Wine

In vino veritas! Hannu Lehmusvuori presents an excellent guide to the pleasures of the wine cellar. Sampling the red wines of the week will be a joy! Versions in both English and Finnish are provided for this gem from Helsinki.

Kat's Realm of Mythology

Everything from ancient goddesses to faeries to mermaids may be found at this beautifully designed site.

Asti - Diffusione Immagine (in italiano)

Quest'e la una pagina molto interesante, a riguardo a la Cita d'Asti, e la gastronomia e il vino del regione.

Susan Smiles - Surviving Childhood Sexual Abuse

This unique site treats of this painful subject while maintaining a positive, pleasant motif. Visit the "inner child playroom", chat, pen pals, poetry and links. This site is quite new to the Web, and is not as thoroughly developed as that of most award winners, but its upbeat, encouraging tone is a WWW treasure.

Melanie Klegerman Art and Design

The limited edition, original art work here is creative, different, and often humourous. Melanie offers fantasy art, a bridal collection, and pet portraits as part of the collection.

Private Pilot's Page

Aviation for the private pilot, plus "other fun stuff", awaits you at this original site.

Mischief on the Internet

Animal lovers, in particular, will enjoy the adventures of the Web's top prairie dog.

The Rendezvous

Counseling information about many areas, very well presented.

Anonymous Sexual Abuse Recovery Canada

Content always is key in determining which sites receive the award, and I am especially glad to present it to sites that offer a valuable service to the Web community. This is the description provided by their webmaster: ASAR(C) is a self help support service for victims and survivors of sexual abuse and sexual assault. We explain the service and how one can connect to it - as well as have a number of abuse/healing/recovery articles online and numerous links to other supportive resources. We are in the process of making ASAR(C) a full internet service in where the Closed Safe Confidential conference will be part of the website and one will not have to call another number to connect."

Ladies of the Heart

This peaceful, lovely site has a simple but deep message - the spirit of love, harmony and joy shared by the Ladies of the Heart, creative ladies of the Web community. Come and visit those who wish the Web to be a community of warmth and support.

Dana Letsom - Cyber Artist

Those who love art and wish to see the work of a serious talent must not miss the images here of Dana's oil paintings.

UnWillyn German Shorthairs

This refreshing site will introduce you to the world of these fine dogs - and to Paul and Andi's passion for the breed. Dog lovers will adore this site!

Elfquest Games

A fan of Elfquest has developed this fun site which contains trivia questions, voting, Java games, animation, and more. It is easy to navigate, full of content, and interactive. Users can cast votes; answer trivia questions; send in their own suggestions for ballot questions and trivia; play games; and learn about Elfquest comics.

Pelerin's Rampant Wolf

Class lives in GeoCities! Don't miss a stop at this unique site, where one expects to find Shakespeare and Milton sharing a bit of ale.

Lady Leigh's Fantasy World

Plan an evening to spend at this fascinating, delightful site, which is a marvellous break from what we normally term reality. Faeries, angels, wizards, gargoyles, unicorns, Drac's castle and more inhabit Lady Leigh's land. The graphics and backgrounds are extraordinary - the kind I wish that I had designed!

Truth Is..Truth, Religion, and the Nature of Reality

Jim and I may disagree on many points, but his sharing of his own quest for truth, and what he has come to believe in the process, is fascinating and profound. His words are also hilarious! Enter with an open mind, as Jim invites you to do, and view a site whose author has shared a great deal of himself. This site will get you to thinking.

Lady Gryphon's Home Page

If you believe in magic, as I do, feast your eyes on the graphics the Lady Gryphon has to offer. Plan to spend some time here - there's much to see. Don't overlook the campaign to save the dragons.

Auramooth's Wiccan Page

This site has thorough content about the history and practises of witchcraft, herb lore, divination, and related topics that would have been widely known amongst our medieval friends. Auramooth also has a brief but interesting reflection about the faeries.

Knots on the Web

This very original site will give you more of an introduction to the world of knots than you ever dreamt existed.

Guide to Philosophy on the Web

Looking for a philosophical text? Your search will be ended once you try this site. Philosophy is a favourite topic of mine. If you're not sure you like it, check a few of these links first.

Lilac's Home Page

Here you'll find an interesting blend - as Lilac herself describes the site: "helpful links for web page making...Lilac's Kitchen with her favorite recipes...a little bit of Nashville with her country music page..take a tour of the state where she lives..and see her dedication to her friends on line on her friends pages."

Lucky Black Cat's Home Turf

Besides being a fun site in itself, these cats host the Missing Children's Ring.

Cyber View Information Center

Everything from financial information to the almanac!

The Compassionate Friends

Wonderful site offering comfort and support to bereaved family members. Among the offerings are poems and prose written by bereaved parents and siblings, and an area where bereaved parents can post short memorials to their beloved ones who died.

Jane Austen's Clergymen

Though the design of this site is not in the "web wizard" category, its fresh, original, and thought provoking content make me urge a visit.

Realm of the Faerie

Fun site with lovely faerie graphics. Be sure to stop in for some magic!

Heaven and Earth - Home of the Wind

This lovely site requires a lengthy visit. Sample the areas of the psychic and metaphysical, astrology, herbal remedies (right on!), and more. This is a commercial site from which those interested may order related products and services. It also provides interesting information about alternative healing.

Abbygrrl's Treehouse

Cyndie describes her site as "a retreat from the real world. It is a showcase for borrowed inspirations and original writing." It's a fun site that will appeal to the child in all of us.

Religium

This is a scholarly site, with access to intriguing documents from every religious tradition. Though I rarely consider links pages, this one is not merely a connection to other sites, but to downloadable documents that would be difficult to find anywhere.

Don Carroll's MIDI Site

This is a fun site, with a "funky" collection of downloadable MIDI files. Those of you who have asked me for suggestions for improving your own pages with MIDI enhancements surely will find resources here.

Algabil-Freedom Lodge No. 636

This site presents varied information about the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.

Runners up

The main consideration for the Class Act award is extensive and original content.

Some sites that are nominated for the award fall short of the usual criteria because they consist mainly of links, are not rich enough in content, are obviously "under construction", or do not have the greatest of designs (yet). However, you will find something special in each of them.

Is your name Richard Ross?

Unique, to say the least - a page intended just for those with one name! But there are fun Celtic links, Clan Ross references, and genealogy ... not to mention the funniest of Irish jokes (a weakness of mine!). Stop by and visit my best friend, who brings much joy to my life and shows his humourous bent very well on this page.

Judyful's Pleasant Time

Fun, lighthearted, and nostalgic spot, with such topics as the mystical unicorn's travels and the origins of pet rocks. Entertaining graphics.

The Al Bundy Fan Page - in German, with a smaller English version

Information about the television program "Married with Children", including biographies of the characters.

Gibbs Gallery

Well designed, fun site that will introduce you to the state of Georgia and the interests of Jack and Linda Gibbs. Primarily links.

Morning Glory, Angel of Light

Morning Glory loves angels and graphics, as any visitor will know at first glance! The site does not contain information about angels and does not have a high degree of content- but it does have beautiful graphics and music, and a spirit of love and warmth that is appealing. Kelley is a wonderful, loving lady, and you will get that sense at her site.

Friesen Family Page

Family friendly site with links to fantasy, Christian, "parenting", and other resources.

Angel Heart

As Angel Heart describes her site: "it is a dedication page to my mother who died last year of cancer, also its a page of angels, what i hold close to my heart, angels, poems, friends...i have a grafic heavy page, it requires time to load..i have used building this page as my therapy for my grief, i have put alot of love into it." It is not an educational site, but its warmth will appeal to many.

Worshipful Company of Information Technologists

This site is very new, much under construction, and not a demonstration of web wizardry. However, the idea is quite original. It is a colloquium of information technologists studing the ethical and spiritual implications of technology, from a Christian perspective.

A Class Act DJ

Anyone who lives in the New Jersey area will do well to check this site if he is in need of disc jockey entertainment. Great selection.
